The five page fold-out card has one inch (approximate) squares of all 219 colors that are available. This comes in very handy when your local fabric store doesn't carry the color you need. (More customer reviews)One. of two, of my all time favorite books for quilt making, hands down. Liz and Marianne have created a book that will teach everyone some important skills. It sits inches away from my machine at all times. If I have a question I run to this book for the answers. The layout is fantastic. It starts out with a Quilt making Primer, which offers you everything you need to know about Tools, fabrics, and colors. You learn basic quilting skills and then move into direction for block drafting. Then it is onto borders, where you will find an important chart on how to calculate for borders. The book takes you through the step-by-step process of thinking, creating, making and finishing a quilt. Every step along the way there are two page classes on skills you can learn, to put into action the tricks they just taught. Then you move beyond basic patchwork to more intricate techniques. The patterns range from easy to more complicated and remove the risk element on new techniques while you learn different block construction skills.

This book also features outlines of the cutting templates you will need. This book is so detailed that you can pick up this book and complete the quilt without requiring outside references. The only difficult thing about this book is picking the pattern you will make as they are all so beautiful. An excellent blend of piece quilting and applique quilting patterns.

Therefore, I consider our group expert quilters, and take my peers' recommendations seriously. We highly recommend Easy Glide Quilting Needles (size 9), because they are our all-time favorite to use. (More customer reviews)I spent several days searching everywhere in the Portland OR area and even called some shops up in Seattle. I wanted a really fluffy, thick and heavy batting for the new quilt I made. Silk, satin, velvet and lace, it needed something rich inside to match it's outside.
When I found this online, I was worried it wouldn't meet what I wanted. Thankfully, it was about an inch thick, warm and soft. we love it and I will definitely be using it again and again. I just wish it were available in the local Joannes. I just have no patience to wait for it!

Later I used an Olfa and found that it's not nearly as easy to use, but, of course, people get used to it. The only disadvantage of Clover is that you have to remember to close it up each time so you don't accidentally cut yourself. But I think cutting fabric is hard, and Clover makes it easier.

If you're familiar with Ms. Burns' books and/or videos, you know that she's getting better with almost every volume...clearer instructions, more detailed illlustrations, and enticing photos of the finished projects.An added treat in her Sunbonnet Sue volume is the clever series of illustrations featuring the famous little faceless lass engaging in the various steps in quilt-making (Sue earnestly plugging away at the sewing machine, etc.) This would be an excellent addition to a quilting library, and even a great first-time quilt project. Thanks to Eleanor's consistently excellent instructions, you'll be able to follow along with no difficulty...and even a chuckle or two.

Fiskars 95217097 45 mm Rotary Cutter Review

(More customer reviews)I had the opportunity to try the Olfa and the Fiskar rotary cutters from a friend who had both. After trying them for about 15 minutes, I decided I preferred the Fiskar cutter. The Olfa was okay and worked well, but the Fiskar cutter felt better ergonomically. The Fiskar handle was curved, sturdier with a better grip. I don't care for the straight cutters. Another friend also preferred the Fiskar cutter. We all decided Fiskar cutter was the best ergonomically, but will probably buy the Olfa blades. I hope this helps for those who may be on the border between the two. I rate it 4 stars because the blade is better on the Olfa.
