I made this over a year ago as a Christmas present for my Mother-in-law. The bag is the perfect size, love the pockets inside...and you can't beat the silk trim! Cheryl's directions were fabulous and I had no trouble understanding the construction process, plus her support is amazing and I would never hesitate to ask her a question. I would classify myself as an advanced beginner seamstress.

McCall's Crafts Cat Family pattern M5259 Review

McCall's Crafts Cat Family pattern M5259
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this cute pattern, McCall's Crafts M5259, thinking it would be fun to create a cute little multi-colored cat (see photo of pattern, lower left corner). I love mixed patterns and colors and have thoroughly enjoyed visiting fabric stores to do that mixing and matching.
This was the first sewing I had done in quite a few years, but studying the layout of the pattern and instruction sheets--McCall's is quite easy to follow--made everything jump back into focus in no time. It took me two nights to sew the first cat--my Saints Who Dat Cat (see my profile photo).
When I say I studied, I did just that. McCall's shows how to lay out the fabric, how to place the pattern pieces, then provides easy-to-follow instructions. Very simple. The stitching I had to take apart was strictly my own fault.
I have made about 20 of these cats so far. Why? I don't know. I think I've developed an addiction. It's not McCall's fault. McCall's was just doing its job. Maybe the fault is in my stars. Or my head. Or maybe I'm becoming one of those Cat Ladies.

Susan Bates Silvalume Crochet Hooks Review

Susan Bates Silvalume Crochet Hooks
Average Reviews:

I lost my F crochet hook, and was needing one to replace it, but all I could find was Boyes brand hooks in the stores by me, and I do not care for Boyes because it does not have a smooth hook, and the yarn/thread gets caught on the hook part and splits allot. I found this Susan Battes hook on here, and that is one of the only brands I will buy for my Crochet hooks. Once i got it I used it right a way. It makes for a smooth, snag free, comfortable crocheting. I would recommend this hook to everyone

This is by far the best quilting book in my collection. It features gorgeous patterns, and excellent instructions. This book also features outlines of the cutting templates you will need. This book is so detailed that you can pick up this book and complete the quilt without requiring outside references. The only difficult thing about this book is picking the pattern you will make as they are all so beautiful. An excellent blend of piece quilting and applique quilting patterns.

Jewels of India Pattern Review

Jewels of India Pattern
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this pattern and received it yesterday. I am thrilled by it. It is an ethnic design, but no reason to keep it that way. I love beautiful fabrics, of which I have a good stash. I plan to make up this design in various ways - not so as to look like I am trying to dress as a woman in India, but simply as a woman who likes wearable art and interesting clothing. Seeing the pattern gave me several great ideas as to what can be done with this design.

Stellar Transitions Pattern Review

Stellar Transitions Pattern
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this pattern before beginning to potty train my 21 month old daughter. I started sewing trainers in anticipation of training. We cloth diaper, and I own a serger and an industrial snap press in addition to my sewing machine. I decided to make the side snapping version of the pattern and use PUL in the wetzone, to make this superior over store bought trainers.
I had never sewn with FOE before, and although the first attempt was a bit tricky, the second attempt was nearly perfect, and I got better as I went. I use cotton knits on the sides and the inner crotch panel, and use flannel and microfiber as the soaker core. I personally added an extra snap to each wing of the trainer to prevent gaping.... I just felt that more snaps was better.
I did email the pattern creator to ask questions on the amount and type of FOE that she recommended, because I had never purchased it before and needed to buy it online as it is not usually found in fabric stores. She was extremely personable and helpful, and we conversed about the patterns and the pieces I had made.
The pattern is very clear. It contains all of the sizes you should need. I can't wait to make more this week, now that we are actually potty training, these are my favorite trainers we own, and we have four other brands/varieties!

Stellar Transitions are designed to be trim fitting and feel like actual underwear. They can be sewn entirely on a regular sewing machine, or with a serger, instructions for both are included. Note that you will not be able to complete the entire assembly process with a serger. Some steps require a regular sewing machine.

Navajo Blouse & Skirt Pattern Review

Navajo Blouse and Skirt Pattern
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The instructions for this pattern could be much clearer. For example, nowhere in supplies lists does it mention interfacing, yet there is a passing reference to "if you're using interfacing." And while there is an explanation about how to gather fabric, there is nothing about making waistbands and the charts for setting in the collar are exteremly unclear. I had google instructions. And adaptaions are mentioned, rather than explained. So even though this pattern is pretty simple, it's probably not for beginners.
But it does make a very nice outfit. I live in a traditional Navajo community and got several compliments. Definitely go for the piping on the sleeves--it's not usually done these days but it is traditional and lovely. You could also add some as a front and/or back yoke for extra oomph. Most Navajo skip the placket on the collar these days, and just fasten at the neck with a large brooch. For dress up, the skirt is usually a matching velvet even though cotton is more traditional and more common for everyday wear. Forget the headband; it's goofy (maybe even a little insulting).
