(More customer reviews)I have used Amy Butler patterns in the past and loved them, however this was disappointing. I did not like the finished product. It is a very long and skinny bag much more so than pictured on the pattern. I found it was difficult to sew at times. It has a zipper and pleating is required at each end of the zipper. The pattern did a poor job of walking you through this part and the pleats were poorly marked on the pattern as to how big the pleat is surposed to be. I was so disappointed and hated the bag so much that I immediately turned around and sold the pattern on ebay.

(More customer reviews)I go through a lot of tear away, so when I ran out I was very happy to find this! The width of this roll is a nice size for many projects.
This is a great bargain compared to what you would pay at fabric store chains, I cringe when I have to buy it at a store knowing I can get it so much cheaper online (plus stores tend to only carry the heavy weight, which tends to distort your project when you rip it away....this weight is kinder to your design and is less likely to pull it out of shape when you remove it!)
I would really recommend this item, its a great sewing aid at a great price.

It did not "set down" close enough after lowering the presser foot bar, 2. While sewing the zipper, it slid freely along the little bar thus sliding under and breaking the needle.

Amy Butler - The Swing Bag Pattern Review

(More customer reviews)Amy Butler has catapulted to sewing stardom on the merits of her bag patterns, and the Swing Bag pattern is a great example of her work. Her instructions are verbose and well diagrammed, making this an excellent choice for a beginner. The materials called for in this bag are simple and readily available (no specialty interfacing, for example) which also favors the beginning sewing enthusiast, and yet the result is no ordinary dowdy tote bag. The trapezoid shape with the scooped out topline is chic, and the reversible nature of the bag makes it doubly fun.
This isn't to say it is faultless as a sewing pattern. Many people (myself included) dislike her choice for where to turn the bag - she recommends in the highly visible topline when a side seam makes much more sense. She neglects to edgestitch the topline, and while this is easily remedied (just do it!) a beginner would not know that this will give a professional look to the bag without being told.
I have made quite a few of these, and on some I have made my own modifications to this bag... adding a built-in cell phone pocket, a zipper pocket, mitering the corners, adding a key carabiner loop, etc. But even without any modifications at all, this is a versatile and sophisticated totebag that makes a great introduction to hand-bag sewing. It is a pattern well worth owning.

Everytime I put it on the setting for Gather it makes a big knot in one spot, and that's it. The instructions are very small, and not clear in my opinion. There is really no where that I have found for instructions online either. So unless you already know how to use this, or have someone who can show you I think you may end up very frustrated (like me).

(More customer reviews)I made this as a sleepover bag for my 9-year-old daughter a few days ago and we both love it. The instructions are simple and the bag is easy to make. I omitted the bottle pocket since it's not a diaper bag for us and also omitted the cell phone pocket. I made this in probably 3-4 hours. The bag is quite large- definitely not an everyday diaper bag that I would've used when my kids were babies.

I broke my shank trying to get it on and now I have to buy a new shank as well as the correct presser foot. And the sewing project I am working on is on an even longer delay, very inconvenient.

Amy Butler Patterns-Gum Drop Review

(More customer reviews)This is such a fun pillow/ottoman to make. I'm a confident beginning seamstress and have made 3 now, one of the large size for our livingroom and two of the smaller ones in a rainbow design for my kiddos. I'm a fan of Amy Butler as it is and the large ottoman was my first completed project from one of her patterns. The instructions are very clear and there were marks on the pattern to help ensure you line up and sew your pieces more accurately. I only have one complaint and that is that the pattern piece for the panels is only half the total panel and you do have to tape 2 pieces together to get it. While the taping wasn't a problem tracing half and then another half for each panel was annoying. An easy fix though is to trace and cut out the entire panel from freezer paper and use that as your pattern thus saving your pattern piece from wear and tear and getting more use from it later. The 24" version serves as a great casual ottoman and the smaller 18" is still large for a 'pillow' and works best as a mini ottoman or a child's ottoman.

(More customer reviews)I am an avid sewer and made this purse for a friend. It was ok, but not great. I think her other patterns are much cuter. As always with Amy Butler's patterns, it was an easy pattern to read. Excepting this time for the zipper placement part on the inside pocket. I found that Amy's directions on this part didn't match up at all and I ended up doing my own thing.
Overall, this is a cute bag and my friend enjoyed it, but I think it looks too much like a diaper bag or a bible case. Not exactly 2 images I would want for my purses to look like.
I also found that the size of cording used for the piping was impossible to find so I substituted it for a piping about 3/8" wide.
