(More customer reviews)The ruler comes with a little booklet on cardstock with basic advice for using it. I'm a math person, so I find it really easy to use and understand, but I can see how it may be confusing for others. I also bought Marti Mitchell's book that goes with it, which is good and helpful, but it arrived later, and I was impatient. I recommend the book for ideas, but wait until you get it! I just started buying fabric, which ended up being very foolish as I loved a different pattern than I thought I would, which made my purchases unuseable.
When it comes down to it, the ruler is great and the book is helpful. Go for it. I will make lots of kaleidoscope quilts in the future, they are fun to cut and make. The book has instructions on how to keep the block flatter where all 8 pieces meet, but I find it a bit confusing, I'm probably not doing it right, and my blocks are still a bit bulky.

(More customer reviews)This is by far the best quilting book in my collection. It features gorgeous patterns, and excellent instructions. This book also features outlines of the cutting templates you will need. This book is so detailed that you can pick up this book and complete the quilt without requiring outside references. The only difficult thing about this book is picking the pattern you will make as they are all so beautiful. An excellent blend of piece quilting and applique quilting patterns.

(More customer reviews)This is a crafting tool, not a sewing machine, but if you like to needle felt, rug hook, crochet, etc. or other things that give you a lot of "fiber" materials in your crafting closet, this thing is marvy! You can take a piece of felt, burlap, muslin, and make tapestries and wall hangings with yarn, roving, bits and pieces of ribbon, etc. in half the time it would take to do it by hand. Although it will "join" materials together, it is not like an applique process where the pieces could potentillialy withstand a machine washing, so for garments you will probably need additional hand-sewing on elaborate creations. But -- it's fun and has "no rules" for use.
