Reliable Empressa Digital Steam Presses Review

Reliable Empressa Digital Steam Presses
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have always been lousy at ironing.
This steam press makes my life a lot easier. I can press both sides of an item at one time. I can put a crease in that lasts all day.
It takes some time to get used to putting items on the press. I don't really use the steam much, but I use the squirt bottle all the time. Sometimes I placed an item so it developed a crease somewhere I didn't want it. Just squirt and repress.
Unlike regular ironing where you work on a small portion at a time, this does half a shirt or a whole pants leg at a time. Proper placement and smoothing it out before pressing is VERY important or else you repeat.
I usually count to about 8 and it is done.
Most shirts take four presses of 8 seconds each. Half the shirt twice and the sleeves. Pants, hmm, I am still working on the alignment thing. Usually I am pressing the pants flat, meaning seam to seam, then folding to put the crease down the leg.
You will burn yourself. My boyfriend gave me cut resistant gloves and cut the finger tips out on the palm side to help me do the alignment thing. It opens like a clamshell. The front side is about 10" open and the back end is only about 2-3" open. It is very easy to bump the top with your hand, which is the heated part, in the process of lying clothes on it. I also wear long sleeves. AND pants or shorts. It sits about four inches lower than my fully raised ironing board since I also got the stand. Perfect for sitting, While standing, well, I am tall so it is right at my crouch level. I haven't experienced it but I heard a man who stated that he accidentally caught his "stuff" in it. So, I don't use it naked.

Reduce the time you spend ironing by up to 50 percent with this digital steam press. The unit's pressing area measures 25 by 10 inches--over seven times larger than most handheld irons, while its powerful burst-of-steam function smoothes wrinkles out of the most stubborn fabrics quickly and easily. The steam press works great for everyday ironing of trousers, blouses, jackets, and linens, but it can also be used by dressmakers as a mini-fusing press for setting fusing on collars, cuffs, jacket fronts, and more. The steam press comes equipped with a digital control panel with simple push-button controls and indicator lights that allow for accurately setting the temperature (up to 330 degrees F). Other thoughtful details include a safety alarm and automatic shut-off, a childproof safety lock, a Hi-Tec woven press cover with pad, and an accessory kit with a pressing cushion and water spray bottle. The UL-listed 1350-watt steam press measures approximately 26 by 22 by 9 inches.

Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor Mop Review

Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor Mop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Halleluia! When my Bissell Steam Mop finally 'died' and I found out they didn't make them anymore I was devastated. The only place I found to buy them was ebay at a whopping $250! Anyway, I searched online for other models and read all their reviews. None of the reviews for other products sounded any where near the quality and hard work of my old Bissell. I saw this model (The Steamboy) and it looked similar to the Bissell, however - nobody had written a review, so I was a little skeptical.
I'm here to tell ya - this product is as good or, dare I say, even better - than the Bissell for several reasons: 1. it is lighter weight (but not flimsy) so my arms don't get tired 2. the head pivots easier and it is triangular in shape so it gets into the nasty corners under my kitchen counters and behind my toilets even better 3. the pads are easier to put on than the Bissell and the draw string to tighten them on is longer and therefore easier to work with and lastly 4. it has a carry handle and doesn't fall over when standing upright as my old Bissell did. Cons are 1. you have to make sure that the tank is all the way in or it is a little drippy 2. the cord could be longer, but I can't remember the Bissell's being any longer than this one.
So, if you want to replace your Bissell or give one as a gift this is definately an affordable option. If you've never used a steam mop, you will be amazed - and disgusted - by how clean your floors get and realize how dirty they REALLY were all those years when you used the ol' mop and bucket. This is faster too and requires no chemicals to clean!

Factory-Reconditioned Singer 2517 Sewing Machine Review

Factory-Reconditioned Singer 2517 Sewing Machine

This Singer is no good. I have attempted sewing with this several times, and have unfortunaly been able to make only ONE successful line of stiching. I have played around with this so many times thinking that "maybe this time it will work" but it hasn't. I tried contacting Singer and got back a standard email that did not have anything to do with my question. Also, the instruction book that claims to be easy to read, explains things in a difficult manner, and the pictures that go along with it are no help. Therefore, I give up, and am taking it back.

It worked, but not very well. I bought this to teach my grandaughter how to sew and in a year a two I was going to give it to her. But I had to send it back. The thread kept breaking and it was hard to thread. Also, it kept jamming up. It really wasn't a very good performing machine and very frustrating to use. No, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Sorry.

Brother XL3500T 73 Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine Review

Brother XL3500T 73 Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this machine. Brother has made a solid, well built machine. It is mostly plastic on the body, but feels well built and sturdy. It is heavy feeling and doesnt feel cheap at all.
Threading it to start with was super simple but the automatic needle threader took some getting used to because I'd never seen one before. Now, that I have gotten use to it though, I can thread the sewing machine, start to finish in 10-15 seconds. Amazing.
I really love the drop in bobbin. It has a little plastic window so you can see the bobbin, use the plastic bobbins as well and you can keep an eye on your bobbin thead levels easily. Using metal bobbins blocks the view of the thread, but that is no fault of the machines.
Plenty of stitch options are included. Numerous bits and pieces are included but I have yet to need them. I use the extension Table extensively as I am a quilter and it comes loose pretty easily, unfortanately.
But all in all, that is my only real complaint. It runs quietly and pretty damn fast for my taste.
Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Average Reviews:

I have had this machine for years! I paid a lot more for it than Amazon is offering. So the price is just not an issue here. The main advantage of this machine is 1) It is Singer (the name says it all); 2) It has an automatic thread tension control (an invaluable feature for novices!); 3) It has 17 stitches (even the one for sewing on buttons, embroidery, and monogram); 4) It is very easy to operate, as a very detailed and easy to comprehend user manual is included; and 5) It is light-weight, compared to those bulky Kenmore and Bernina machines, it is is just a baby!
I would definitely recommend this machine to novices (especially for such a price) it is easy and cute, too.

I bought a brand new Singer 2662 (not a factory re conditioned one). This was the only Singer 2662 I could find here. Anyhow, excellent machine; stitches easily; $158 at Wal-Mart; easy to use; easy to load bobbin; easy to thread; quiet; easy to operate; easy to select stitches; upholds it reputable name-Singer. This is the easiest machine you will ever use. I also have a Viking Husqvarna 6460 and this Singer is 1000 times easier!!!

The Singer Model 2662 is a 62-stitch function machine with many features to make your sewing projects so easy. With a 1-step buttonhole you will be able to make a whole row of identical buttonholes quickly. Two extra special features on the 2662 is the adjustable needle placement so that you can get your line of stitching exactly where you want it and the ability to lower the feed dogs (this prevents the machine from feeding the fabric through the sewing area giving you full control of stitch placement especially useful for creative stitching). The machine also features an automatic needle threader; a top drop in bobbin and easy bobbin winder; adjustable presser foot pressure (useful for heavier fabrics); a free arm; horizontal threading for smoother stitching; and adjustable stitch density (especially helpful for use on buttonholes on light or heavy weight fabrics). With the machine comes an instruction manual (in English, French, and Spanish) to show you how to get the most from your machine. The 62-stitch functions include everything from basic construction (straight stitching, stretch stitching, elastic application) to a little more advanced construction stitches (different overedge stitches, blind hem, button sewing) to several decorative stitches (crescent stitch, feather stitch, applique, monogramming). The machine also has a compartment for storing the accessories and there are a lot of accessories! You will receive a pack of needles, 4 bobbins, standard presser foot, buttonhole foot, zipper foot, rolled hem foot, blind hem foot, satin stitch foot, overcast foot, dust cover, small bottle of oil, 2 spool caps, 2 screwdrivers, seam ripper/lint brush. Brother XL3510 72-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine Review

Brother XL3510 72-Stitch Function Free-Arm Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Though the Brother XL-3510 wasn't my first choice in a machine (purchased out of a limited selection from an online retailer using a "store credit only" return policy, even for defective machines), after a marathon weekend of sewing medieval garb, I have found this to be a solid machine that handles a wide range of projects effectively and efficiently. With a drop in bobbin (SA156 is the Brother part number--same as their sewing/embroidery machines) that is oriented a little too much towards the right handed (I'm a left handed person), it's much easier to manage than the Europro I returned to the online retailer that uses a steel bobbin and bobbin case from the side. Threading is easy as well, though left handed people will have problems for a few times until you get used to the nuances of the threading. There are about 3 or 4 places that I found the machine difficult to manage as a left handed person. Sadly, as strong as Brother is, for both the industrial and home sewing markets, they have forgotten that both left handed and right handed people use the machines!!
I really like the way the stitch selector dial works. Just like a shift key on a computer, you just put the outer dial on the red SS1 for the red row of stitches or the green SS2 for the green row of stitches--it's very user friendly. Normal stitches are neither red nor green--for things like straight or zig zag. Everyday stuff like back-stitching is easy (easier than many models) and the machine doen't balk at you when you want to go through a few thicknesses of fabric like pleats. As with any machine, you might have to coax it a little by a tug or two on a stubborn section through the feeders, but I've never known a machine that always could feed anything without a little help now and again.
All in all, thie machine passes the test. It works very nicely and should be a great addition to anyone's sewing room. I'm not an expert seamstress, but I've sewn to some degree since I was six and used many many machines along the way. This machine was a good buy--but for the future I will ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT before buying ANY MACHINE--it really DOES MATTER WHO YOU BUY FROM AND WHAT THE RETURN POLICY IS.
READ THE RETURN POLICY--EVERY WORD--BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING--THIS IS EXTRA IMPORTANT FOR SEWING MACHINES.
This is a great machine. I didn't buy mine on amazon. I really wish I did.

Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin Sewing Machine 74 Stich Review

Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin Sewing Machine 74 Stich
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for an inexpensive mechanical machine and did a lot of research. This one had the functions I wanted, and had the best reviews I could find - very few poor reviews, actually, in all the places I could find sewing machine reviews on the internet. There aren't any here, so I thought I'd write one!
I got this machine in January, and have used it almost daily since then with no problems. The manual is great, and any snags I've run into have been easily solved - I've had to clean and oil it, since I've used a lot of linty material on it, but that's very easy to do and to be expected with lots of use!
It's much more quiet than my old Singer was. I don't have any complaints. There are features I'd like, but you have to buy a more expensive machine to get it all.
By the way, I paid about $170 for this with shipping. Search around a little for the best prices, they seem to vary widely.

Reliable 2000U-33 Barracuda Portable Zig-Zag Walking-Foot Sewing Machine Review

Reliable 2000U-33 Barracuda Portable Zig-Zag Walking-Foot Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm no an expert at sewing but have had some good experiences with an older rock-solid Singer zigzag. This machine is the basic do-it-yourself entry-level zig-zag walking foot capable of handling heavier fabrics and sails. It is nearly identical to those sold under many different names. God luck deciphering which ones are made in China or Taiwan, the latter supposedly a bit better made. A fine-tuned version (at a significantly higher price) is available from Sailrite (beware some of the sleight-of-hand discounters selling that brand though Sailrite themselves are highly reputable).
I received mine a week ago and have just done a couple of practice projects with 1" webbing and 6-8 oz. duck. I'm finding that the machine gets hung up often. I initially thought it was from using the wrong sized needle or simply too much fabric. Through experimentation culminating with turning by hand with no fabric or thread, I've found that the clutch mechanism in this thing can barely overcome the mechanical resistance of the spring-loaded walking presser foot, even when not actually sewing. I followed the manual instructions and rotated the clutch washer 180º and I guess it's another one of those help suggestions designed simply to waste your time.
I've ordered the Sailrite Monster II balance wheel and, based on my initial experiences, think a modification like that is an absolute necessity. It's not a refinement or luxury but a requirement for this machine to be functional as the factory clutch is pure rubbish. Right now, I have it cranked down so tight I can't unscrew it, but it still slips constantly.
My only other complaint is minor. The foot controller is pretty flimsy but that's not a surprise. It's asinine though that the cord from the machine to the foot controller is so short it barely reaches the floor from a kindergarten-sized table. The A/C plug end is plenty long. That's just very sloppy quality control and I'm going to have to splice a longer wire, simple really, but not something most people would want to deal with.
Bottom line, if you plan to add an enhanced balance wheel with positive mechanical engagement, everything else seems reasonably functional and solid. If you think you can use this as shipped, in my opinion, not a good choice.

Designed for boat owners, serious hobbyists, and small businesses, this zig-zag walking-foot sewing machine delivers remarkable versatility. Its stitch quality compares to an industrial machine's, for a fraction of the price, plus it provides the added bonus of a zig-zag stitch. To help get the job done faster, the unit also comes with a powerful built-in motor, a maximum sewing speed of 800 rpm, spring-loaded reverse, an oscillating shuttle hook, and a piping (welting) foot to do 1/8-inch > 3/16-inch piping, plus an additional outside zipper foot. The machine uses industrial-standard 135-by-17 needles, and it also offers a high-lift walking foot with a 1/4-inch clearance underneath the foot, a built-in speed reducer for higher torque on heavy material, and toothed belts and pulleys to prevent slippage. Other details include top and bottom feed, a 0 to 6 mm stitch length, up to 4 stitches per inch, an 8 mm stitch width, a pressure foot lift (by hand 9 mm, by knee 8 mm), a 7-inch work space, and a 14-1/2-inch bed size. I have never had so much trou ble with a sewing machine. To begin with, i cannot get the bobbin to wind smoothly if the bobbin thread doesnt wind smoothly you will encounter jams Also the handle of the machine sits over the thread spool It has a drop in bobbin which i love, but it is hard to thread it and keep it in place. It has a see through cover, a cheap piece of plastic that came off and was instantly lost! It is too lightweight and can fall over while you are sewing i am used to being able to open the front of the machine (where you thread it) but you have to get a screw driver to open it. Thus to clean it of lint etc you have to stop everything. maybe these have been discontinued..if so you can see why

I purchased this sewing machine as a gift for my grand-children. When it arrived, I checked it out to make sure it worked well and was a good machine for them. I read the manual to learn about its' features and made all the stitches on a scrap of material. The machine is quiet, runs smoothly and makes beautiful stitches, plus it is lightweight and easy to transport.
I was so thrilled that I kept raving, to my husband, about what a great little machine it is. In fact, I liked it so much, I decided to keep it for myself and I had to order another one for my grandchildren.
This machine is way better than many machines that cost much more. I already have a Bernina (expensive) and a Singer Featherweight but I fell in love with this sewing machine. I would recommend it to anyone and, in fact, I did. I told two my friends about it and they each bought one.

I am a beginner - the last time I sewed was in home economics class more than 20 years ago - yet this machine is extremely easy to use. The machine itself has good illustrations embossed on it, which direction the thread goes, that kind of important stuff. No need to pull the manual out all the time. This machine is much, much easier than I remember machine sewing being. Nothing jams. The materials and build are not flimsy and cheap and plasticky the way the lower end Brothers and Singer machines are. I was scared to buy this model because of the dearth of online reviews. However, this purchase has been an example of when the brand speaks for itself, Juki being the sewing machine brand used by every tailor shop around me. They did not skimp on quality on this model, though its price point suggests it's intended for residential, non commercial use.

The XR9000 is very lightweight, I don't know if that makes it less robust or not- it seems pretty sturdy but I would not use it for leather. The sewing mechanism is wonderful- very quiet and soft, like cutting through butter. Foot pedal is responsive and the speed limit slider works great. There's also a button control but for whatever weird reason you can not use the start/stop button while the pedal is plugged in; I don't foresee that button getting a lot of use.
There's a reverse/reinforce button which unfortunately is a temporary switch only- not a toggle. It can be used in conjunction with the foot pedal or you just hold the button down and it will go in reverse at a slow speed.
Several extra presser feet are included, e.g. buttonhole, buttonstitch, zipper, blind hem. The one thing I am missing is a quilting guide. There's a slot for it in the foot but it has to be purchased separately. While the accessories are fine, the accessory storage is not. There's a front panel section that you have to pull out and then inside there's a plastic pouch with all the goodies. You have to keep the stuff in the pouch or they'll fall out of the machine. For $0.20 more Brother could have added a proper compartment with a hinge- instead they took a very cheap and impractical storage approach.
Lighting is provided by a bright but focussed white LED. I am somewhat spoiled by having a high wattage light bulb in the previous machine which lit up the entire working area. The XR9000 LED lights up the presser foot really well but that's about it. The "automatic needle threading" is not automatic, but still extremely useful (I keep missing the eye when trying to do it manually).
Even though I wound 3 bobbins I still can't tell whether the machine has an automatic stopping mechanism or just slows down a lot once the bobbin is full. Either way you can run the winding at full speed for a minute and it's quite noticeable once it's complete. The bobbins are full-size and top-loading. There's a somewhat tricky part about catching a hook when loading the bobbin which is not well explained in the manual. The first time I missed that which resulted in unbalanced stitches; reloading the bobbin more carefully took care of it. Another nice feature is that you don't have to pull up the lower thread before you can start to sew.
The stitch patterns are plentiful and half of them look quite nice. The other half has weird default settings where the default stitch length is too long, you can adjust that in the display but it still strikes me as odd. The monogramming feature works- it's fixed size, fixed font and does not look all that great. The XR9000 does not have any adjustable settings for presser foot height or pressure. However, the included default presser foot has some kind of spring adjustment built in which is supposed to help with thick fabric layers. I have not had a chance to try it out yet. The manual and instructional DVD are great and cover all the essentials.
EDIT- 2 months later: I have been having problems with thin fabric veering off to the side which made it impossible to do blind hems or other straight stitches with tight tolerances. For 2 months I thought this was me using it wrong until I brought it to a local store. As it turns out the machine shipped with some defects- the shank was slightly angled and the feed dog timing was off. Repair was $60 and came with a warning by the mechanic that the Brother machines are not particulaly reliable due to lack of solid metal construction. Machine loses 1 star for this and the fact that Brother does not have many authorized service centers.
