(More customer reviews)I'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.
I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:
Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; handling = 9; craftsmanship = 10).
It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.
Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; crafsmanship = 4).
It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.
Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.
Buy the Jiffy 2000 as a garment steamer to make your clothes look good.

While a steam iron eliminates fabric wrinkles and creases with great efficacy, the impact of a heavy soleplate will not do for some delicate and vintage pieces. For such ironing conundrums, Rowenta offers this professional upright steamer. The 1500-watt steamer gently smoothes wrinkles away without the stiffness left by a conventional iron's soleplate.
The detachable 1-gallon water tank reaches its steaming temperature in approximately 90 seconds. With a full tank, the appliance produces steam for 2-1/2 hours. The user applies pressure to the foot pedal to engage and control steam output. An indicator light on the pedal informs its readiness for use. Steam travels through a 5-foot insulated hose, which removes for stowing. (More customer reviews)I was skeptical at first because I have a hard time trusting brands like Conair but I purchased this one anyway and it works great. Produces lots of steam so make sure you're careful when steaming! People complain about it leaking and not producing steam after a period of time....if they read the instructions they would know that it only leaks if the water container goes below half and that you're supposed to decalcify the unit from time to time (using a 3:1 water-vinegar solution) to remove any mineral buildup in the unit so that it produces steam normally. Avoid the problem altogether by using distilled or demineralized water only. Take care of it and it works like a charm. The only thing I don't fancy is that the steam hose gets pretty hot. The handle gets warm but not enough to be a problem.

The great reveiws report claims of great steam fast, just like the Good HouseKeeping seal. I figured that if I bought the unit from Amazon, I could always return it if I was unsatisfied. I like to steam my clothes. I have a Jiffy portable unit for travel and home. I wanted to get a full size unit for home use. This unit is great. It heats up fast (less than a minute). Be sure to hold the trigger and wait. It is not a passive steamer. A pump activates to provide a nice flow of steam. This unit has a water filter. It slides into the drain plug on the bottom of the unit. In the package you will receive information about accessories. I called the support company, Top Innovations and ordered a few extra supplies. I ordered two extra water filters (for $2.99 each) and also a A-465-K1 Accessory Kit. This kit has an entirely separate hose and nossle with various attachments. This will allow me to steam clean counters, stove, tile. I want it to clean the interior floors of my vehicles after the winter. I hope this information helps. (More customer reviews)I can't say I differ much from the other review. I just got mine and I too thought I was loving the feeling of NOT ironing. I had had other hand held cheaper steams so I knew it wouldn't equal an iron but I didn't expect to stand in a lake of water and have steam for only 3 minutes. I thought mine was just defective but now that I read the other person's only steamed for a few minutes perhaps this IS the design. ewww
What was more shocking is after adding water time after time after time when I started to disassembled it to return it IT WAS FULL OF MORE THAN ONE CUP OF WATER!
And that means it does not know when it needs water and it leaks. Two issues.
If not for them I tell you the accessories are the thing. The mitt truly protects your hand from high heat. Heck I'd use it with a regular iron. The lint attachment works well. The hose was surprise. IT IS LIKE VELVET. Truly nice to hold. Steam head is nice and large.
But that's all I got to enjoy because by time I covered shoulder to waist on a long coat (front only) I realized I had a floor full of water and I was done!
I'll let you know if an exchange is any better. I'm beginning to think it won't help either.
Can anyone tell me of one that is a lot better than this?

(More customer reviews)I recently took a wool sweater vest out of the drawer where it had spent the summer. It was crumpled, creased, unwearable, un-ironable. Ah... but it was no problem at all for my new jiffy steamer. In two minutes or so, it was smooth and perfect. I love steaming tee-shirts -- ironing them is annoying and always sets in some strange lines and fine creases. Heavy cotton trousers, wool clothing, sythetics ... all the odd items that never iron quite right are no obstacle at all for my steamer.
I have found it best to put the wand inside the clothing and pull it towards me while steaming. Thinner tee-shirts I can iron from behind and the steam passes through both layers -- cuts my work in half. I have also rested my ironing board against the wall to use as a sort of steamer board but as I'm getting better at using my steamer, I find I don't need to bother with that.
I really like my steamer -- it's quick, easy, efficient, heats up fast, melts away wrinkles. Well-made and sturdy too. Impressive for the price. I recommend it.

This steam press makes my life a lot easier. I can press both sides of an item at one time. I can put a crease in that lasts all day.
It takes some time to get used to putting items on the press. I don't really use the steam much, but I use the squirt bottle all the time. Sometimes I placed an item so it developed a crease somewhere I didn't want it. Just squirt and repress.
Unlike regular ironing where you work on a small portion at a time, this does half a shirt or a whole pants leg at a time. Proper placement and smoothing it out before pressing is VERY important or else you repeat.
I usually count to about 8 and it is done.
Most shirts take four presses of 8 seconds each. Half the shirt twice and the sleeves. Pants, hmm, I am still working on the alignment thing. Usually I am pressing the pants flat, meaning seam to seam, then folding to put the crease down the leg.
You will burn yourself. My boyfriend gave me cut resistant gloves and cut the finger tips out on the palm side to help me do the alignment thing. It opens like a clamshell. The front side is about 10" open and the back end is only about 2-3" open. It is very easy to bump the top with your hand, which is the heated part, in the process of lying clothes on it. I also wear long sleeves. AND pants or shorts. It sits about four inches lower than my fully raised ironing board since I also got the stand. Perfect for sitting, While standing, well, I am tall so it is right at my crouch level. I haven't experienced it but I heard a man who stated that he accidentally caught his "stuff" in it. So, I don't use it naked.

It was July 3 so I didnt get rep from manufacturer til 2 days later. The company was great, sent part right away, no problems from them. The steamer however was a huge dissappointment. The steam "meandered" out, was not forceful nor plentiful in the least, after 5 minutes in one small area of a blouse the wrinkles remained. Tried leaving steamer on for over 15 minutes to "heat up" and work up more steam, no go. It is an ok product quality wise and the company was responsive, it just didnt perform well at all. Returned product.

Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Commercial Garment Steamer Review

I just received my Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Series Garment Steamer a few days ago, and quite frankly, I'm amazed at its effectiveness!
First of all, assembling it was incredibly simple - took no more than 5 minutes. The machine comes with no more than 4-5 pieces to put together, and a wrench is included for free (so no extra personal tools needed). It comes on casters for easily mobility. It doesn't take much storage space (20 inches wide - 10 inch depth).
It has 3 settings: Off, Preheat and Steam, so there is no complication. Also, it has automatic shut-off - and the best part: if you're planning to use it throughout the day, you can leave it on preheat to conserve water! Just switch to steam when ready and you're ready to steam immediately!
Once assembled, you pour no more than 4 quarts of water (tap water or distilled water is fine) into the machine (while it's off), then turn on, switch the setting to "pre-heat", then wait about 15 minutes. You know it's ready to be switched to "steam" when the indicator light starts blinking on and off. You then switch to steam and wait about 2 minutes for the steam to start. Then you're ready to go (and go and go - this machine is capable of over 1.5 hours of steam time!)
Steaming the clothes is very simple. As you go along, you'll find that some fabrics steam much easier than others, and you'll learn different methods of steaming different types of fabric. Some fabrics do perfectly steaming from the outside - some lend themselves better to the steaming process if you steam from the INSIDE of the garment. Other fabrics take longer to steam, others take only a few minutes. But in all cases - hold the fabric taut with one hand while steaming - helps remove the wrinkles faster!
Just make sure you keep the steamhead in an upright position when steaming so the condensation can go back into the machine - if you don't do this - you'll hear a lot of sputtering. To stop the sputter, just place the steam head on its storage hanger and it will stop immediately!
In addition to removing wrinkles, this steamer helps remove smells from fabric!
The only "shortcoming" about this machine is that steaming long dresses is cumbersome (but not impossible). The steamer stands approx. 5 feet tall (I'm 5'2) - however, long garments/dresses call for you to get on your knees or sit down on the floor or chair to steam comfortably. However, if you're sitting on the floor, after several minutes of steaming, you start to hear sputtering and then you have to stop and place steamhead upright again. But the height might be industry standard. However, so much good outweighs this small inconvenience, that I would be willing to LAY DOWN on the floor to steam dresses!
In summary, I recommend this machine 100%. Don't settle for cheapies - in the long run they may cost you more to own than this "workhorse"!

(More customer reviews)Just got my steamer after a year+ hiatus since my Rowenta's plastic head cracked off. WOW, what a difference, for almost the same price! My advice: DO NOT bother with a steamer that has a plastic head. Over time, it will melt, crack, irreparably fall off-->the end for your steamer. There were no replacement parts for my Rowenta, & its ability to remove wrinkles was underwhelming, so I just didn't bother replacing it. The Jiffy J2000 is easier to use: The tank pulls out & replaces easily, no levers or locks to undo. The tank opening is big, no funnel needed, holds about a gallon. It heats within a minute to steaming. The metal head gets steaming hot, so you essentially have a combination of a hand-held iron and a steamer (the instructions do stress the importance of contact between the head and the fabric for best results). The handle is big and wooden, so its comfortable & cool. The unit itself is easy to roll on casters, not bulky, so it's easy to use in my very small laundry room. Be aware that if you haven't used a steamer before, the tubing gets very hot & may burn a little one (or you)--teach kids to stay away as soon as you get this out of the box! You will get billowing clouds of steam, & it WORKS, even on jeans! This is a very quiet unit, too, so you can steam while the kids sleep or do homework, Dad watches TV, etc. And if you want to hold your hanging garment by a corner to keep it steady or straighten it while steaming, I would strongly suggest an oven mitt, or just using a metal or wood tong to keep your hand out of the way entirely. That's the voice of experience, having scalded my fingers a few times! DON'T touch the hot steam head & keep it & the hose away from your anatomy. No attachments come with this steamer. The instruction book shows several attachments that can be ordered thru the Jiffy website to make this a steam cleaner (bathroom, floors, etc), hat steamer, etc, as well as a garment steamer. An extended 3 YEAR warranty is also offered on top of the 1 year warranty, for $34.99 on [..]. Can't beat this deal!
