I purchased this historic costume pattern in the hope that it would be helpful in providing the general method and fit of a woman's doublet. However, the pattern is very poorly executed. The doublet front had apparently been redesigned with a square armhole that cut off the back part of the armhole, but the sleeve was not changed to fit with it. Even the drawings (in the instructions) of the doublet front did not correspond to the pattern piece that was sent. Consequently, I had to completely re-draft a new pattern for the doublet body with changes to the armhole area and make it up in muslin. In addition, the directions are not illustrated, are difficult to follow, and do not describe some of the critical steps in construction. For instance, notches are described in the instructions, but do not appear on the pattern pieces. The wings did not fit and had to be re-drafted as well. And the doublet skirts were just straight grain pieces of fabric that would not accommodate anyone with hips. They are shown with darts on the drawing on the pattern envelope, but how to achieve this is not indicated. Even though I tried cutting the skirts on the bias, they still do not fit properly, and I will need to go back and re-draft new ones that are shaped. I am a very experienced home seamstress who has used historic patterns and constructed historic garments from drawings. However, I had not used this company before and will not do so again. I also asked a neighbor who has made a number of sophisticated historic outfits to take a look, and she totally agreed with my assessment. This pattern was not ready to be marketed and needs extensive revisions before it is released.
