(More customer reviews)I would like to help spare someone my frustration. First, this is a good vac. No it's not Miele's top of the line $900 - it's a little louder than I wanted, and initially seems kind of cheap and lightweight. But if you are sick and tired of pushing and lugging a heavy upright, this is the vac you want. It is small, compact, and can be lifted easily with one arm at about 14 lbs. The plastic seems high quality, a metallic flake blue. Says on the box it is made in the USA. My quest was to find an upright that could switch from pretty plush thick carpet, to hardwood floors. My heavy old Eureka worked OK on the hardwood, as it sat high, and therefore the brush roller never contacted the floor, thus avoiding damage. Unfortunately this isn't the case with this Miele. When the brush roller bar is activated, it definitely sits very low and contacts the hard floor. So Miele has an on-off switch for the roller to remedy this problem. Trouble is, there is really not much suction when the roller is turned off, just a wee bit, more on the right side. So I guess I go back to sweeping the hard floors. I had read that canister vacs are really the way to go for houses with both carpet and hard floor. But most canisters work best on thinner carpet. For thick carpet, you are advised to get powerhead canisters (heavier brush roller), but wow, the cost runs up there for Mieles, etc. So I went with this upright Miele because it was a bargain. I was told by a vac guy that Miele is discontinuing the line and staying with their high end vacs. This Miele is a dream to push on carpet--so smooth and light. It has so much suction that it does suck up smaller area rugs of 3X4, but those can go in the wash. The 184 model does have a power adjustment switch to lower the suction. Overall I am happy with it. The Hepa exhaust air seems very pure - no smell at all compared to the old uprights we all grew up with. I read that most cheap US made Hepas are false Hepas because the vacs aren't properly sealed. I trust Miele. It also comes with a thick high quality filter bag.

(More customer reviews)After years of using an old recycled vacuum my wife and I decided to replace it with a HEPA filter model. She prefers upright so we went shopping. Went to a very reliable store that carried many brands and the floor model of this vacuum performed much better than the rest we tried. So we went home with this pricey model. Immediately we recognized this vacuum really provided much more suction than we were used to and everything looked much cleaner. But....we have a dog that sheds and this thing clogs up easily. Even if you pay very close attention to the bag fill monitor. Even then it's hard to tell if you are close to fill or not - it's only when it locks up that you recognize to change the bag. So twice we have had to take it to the shop for cleaning out of dog hair and/or Christmas tree needles. This is not a task you can do by yourself. Then, the entire vacuum lost power to the motherboard and we lost all power. Our dealer replaced it no questions, but the next version had a broken spring on the wheels so the vacuum was tilted and didn't roll across the floor correctly. Again the dealer replaced it. So now we are on our third vacuum in a year and the brush motor started whining so we took it in yesterday and today I learn we'll have to replace it again. Still waiting to see if the warranty will kick in or not. If not, this is our last upright Miele vacuum. I'll buy something much cheaper, more reliable, and easy to repair/clean by the consumer.

(More customer reviews)Currently, there is only one other review on this vac, and it is one star. I'm not quite sure why that is. I think this is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. Our previous vacuum died and we needed it to replace it. This last one was the latest in a procession of vacuums that had died after only a couple of years' use.
Apologies to Amazon (from whom I buy nearly everything), but at this price for a vacuum, I wanted local input in a store from an expert. Indeed, the local Miele rep was an expert and put this machine and the favorably reviewed Callisto (?) through their paces for my wife and myself. My wife is only interested in an upright vacuum, although she was tempted by the Callisto. Neither one of us felt like the Tango was particularly heavy, and there is a convenient carrying handle mounted on the machine in a place that makes it particularly easy to carry around. Unlike many vacs, the suction for the floor piece does not go through the hose. When the hose is placed in its home, its suction is turned off and diverted to the floor piece. The machine seems incredibly well made (as it should be for the price). It also articulates where the upright part fits into the floor piece, which allows you to change the angle of the path of the floor sweeper very easily. It picks up all the way out to the edges, and gets under cabinet overhangs quite well. To get under beds, one just wraps the cord around a cord lock under the handle and drops the handle down flat to the floor while holding on to the cord. This allows vacuuming under spaces like beds or tables without bending over.
The difference between this model and the Calypso, $200 cheaper is the controls. The rest seems to be the same. Controls on the cheaper model are mechanical while they are touch key electronic on the more expensive one. Also, on the more expensive unit, there is an 'Automatic' setting which is supposed to determine the type of floor (carpet, tile, scatter rug) and adjust the vacuum power automatically.

It's now August 2010. Vacuum cleaner is still performing well. Only one issue so far is that the red finish is not terribly durable. Lots of scrapes and scuffs, but I don't keep the unit on display with a stand. It lives in the closet. So, I'm still quite happy with the purchase.

SEBO 9803AM Felix Fun Upright Vacuum Cleaner 12" Cleaning Path Review

(More customer reviews)I hate vacuuming. Really hate it. But I think this product will help me at least put up with it. It arrived today, and I have to say I am impressed with how thoroughly it cleans. Fluff and dog hairs that our Dyson failed to lift off carpets were gone in one sweep. After only 2 rooms, the bag is almost full (yuck!).
How did we end up with this vacuum cleaner? We moved to the US from the UK 3 years ago. In the UK, we had a Henry vacuum, which was fantastic. But US voltage differs from UK voltage, so we had to leave our Henry behind. When we arrived in the small US town we now live in, our local store offered us a very limited range of vacuums, so we bought a Dyson. It was a brand we recognized, and had a good reputation. How I regretted it. It never cleaned carpet well, and as it aged, it seemed to get worse. A week ago, after resorting (for the N-th time) to using the unadorned end of the hose -- without any kind of head or brush -- to try to lift off the black bits left by my other half's socks, I snapped. The Dyson was forthwith banished to the garage. To cut a long story short, I selected this make of vacuum cleaner based on the reviews here on Amazon, and on other consumer sites.
It shipped from a partner site, and arrived 2 days after I ordered it. It was very simple to assemble (just one screw to tighten, otherwise things clicking together), and I was using it within 20 minutes of opening the box. It seems very straightforward to use.
Things I particularly like:
* The power head. There are 4 settings, for different types of carpet. You can tell if it needs moving to a different setting because an amber light comes on (if the setting is OK, there is a green light)
* The variable speed of suction. Rather than a simple on/off switch, there is a slider that goes from off to top speed via a range of other speeds. Very useful if you want to vacuum something more delicate like an old rug.
* The swivel head and handle. These make it very easy to slide the head under furniture and into corners.
Things I will have to get used to:
* The weight. It's heavier than I am accustomed to.
* Changing the head for wood floors. The Dyson had a multi-functional head (which was probably why it was so useless on carpet).
Things I think could be improved, given the price:
* It should ship with at least a few spare bags.
* There is no dust brush included. This is one of the most useful accessories a vacuum cleaner can have (particularly this one, with its ability to finely control the amount of "suck"). In this price bracket, a dust brush should be standard
* Before I bought this, I hadn't registered the difference between the Felix Fun/Classic and the Ice Blue. I thought it was just the color. But looking at the users manual, it appears that the Ice Blue has a 15" head, whereas the Fun and Classic have a 12" head. It turns out that a 12" head is fine for me, given the arrangement of my furniture (some tight spots), but given the amount of carpet I have, I may well have bought the 15" head Ice Blue version had I realized.
All in all, so far I am very pleased with the product, despite the above shortcomings.

(More customer reviews)I just purchased the Miele Twist and I know how these reviews are important to me, so I hope that I can help someone esle who is considering the Miele S7 series (any model).
I researched the motors as I was told by the salesperson that the "Twist" has a cheaper motor than the Salsa, etc. This is not true. They all have the same motor - look at Miele's website.The $100 difference is the filter and headlight. You can purchase the better filter and put it in the Twist and have the same machine without the light.
I debated on purchasing off of the web, so I could save money. In my research I found that Authorized Dealers DO NOT honor the warranty if purchased from the web!!! So buyer beware. Upon purchasing and giving it a test run, when I went to use the hose attachment it came out of the machine before I could even stretch it to full length, which is really NOT very far, if you like to vac high places - forget it. The hose attachment is much like a dryer vent.
Bottom line:
The Miele Twist is VERY easy to vac with and because it is on a petite side it can get to many little places and the swivel future is wonderful. It vacuums well, however, going over the same area with my old Riccar, I could hear it picking up debris that apparently the Miele missed. I think this machine is good, however, I think there are others that might be better for the price. I rate it a 3 star.

Miele S7580BOLERO Bolero Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Never thought I would be thrilled to get a vacuum cleaner. This one has everything you could want -- it cleans GREAT, it is amazingly quiet, the HEPA filtering is top notch, the controls and the tools are convenient, the power cord reaches forever, the materials used in this machine are built to last, and on top of all of that, it looks gorgeous (I know, I know, it's a vacuum!).
My one and only reservation was that it was on the heavy side. This reservation was quickly allayed when I actually used this Miele upright at home (the dealer kindly lend it to me to try at home.) The maneuverability is phenomenal. No more plowing forward and backward to move a couple inches to the left or right. Just twist your wrist and the vacuum swivels and turns on a dime. It's *amazing* how much effort this saves!
I compared this vacuum to the Sebo Automatic X4 and the Sebo Felix. The X4 is the noisiest of the bunch, and it doesn't swivel (which both the Felix and the Miele do), although it is a solidly great machine. The Felix is the lightest, and it swivels, but is the only one that doesn't have automatic height adjustment, a feature that lets you vacuum right over throw rugs without the vacuum eating the rug.
Price-wise, the Felix was about $100 less than the X4 which is about $120 less than the Miele Bolero.
I ended up selecting the Miele because overall it had every useful feature and was the most convenient to use.
I like the size of the Sebo Felix, but it was a little too fussy (too many parts that come on and off) and the hose didn't have an extension, so I couldn't reach the cobwebs up high.
Any one of these three would be great to own. The Miele is just a little ahead in terms of features and convenience. Oh, and about the high price: I am replacing three (crappy, smelly, loud) old vacuums (Hoover, Kenmore, Eureka), and if you add up how much they all cost, I would have been better off getting the "expensive" Miele to start with. I expect it will last a very very long time.

Miele Active HEPA Filter SF-AH 30 Review

(More customer reviews)I have a Miele canister vacuum which is over 12 years old and still as good as new. And this is saying something because i use it 3 to 4 times a week because of my dogs. This HEPA filter is expensive but seems to be worth it.
I don't replace it yearly like they say you should but when I feel the machine needs a new one. Will keep purchasing until I get a new vacuum, which I think will never happen. The Miele canister is constructed like a tank. 4 stars due to price.

I waited 1/2 hour and tried again.. lights come on but motor appears to be seized and shuts off right away after dimming lights in house. I took machine to Eureka authorized service center noted on their website.....they refused to honor warrantee and service the product and advised returning it to Amazon.

(More customer reviews)I can tell you without a doubt that this is, by far, the best vacuum I have ever used, and I have tried them all. I was a user of the dyson animal and hated it because I hate not having a bag. The dust bin gets disgusting and difficult to clean, so I moved to an Oreck. I loved the Oreck so lightweight and did a decent a job.
Now my friend went to charity auction, and came home with the Miele S7, how weird. But I gave this whirl and omg I was in love. This thing is whisper quiet, you can actually vacuum while a baby is sleeping. The Vacuum Bag holds everything, not a spec of dust escapes, which is perfect because I'm dust sensitive. Finally it really picks up everything, the suction is superb. Oh yea, it's extremely maneuverable as well.
It is however on the tad heavy side, but only because the build quality is so good. Despite this it is easy to vacuum my entire house without getting tired.
So, unless you need a lightweight vacuum, this is the one to buy! you will very satisfied. I ended up buying one the next day after trying it.

Miele U Bags - AirClean Replacement Vacuum Dustbags Review

(More customer reviews)I have no complaints with the bags. The indicator slide on the front of the vacuum itself doesn't seem to do a real great job at telling me when the bag is full, but it's easy enough to open the front compartment and feel the bag to know if it's getting full or not.
In response to the other review on here that the vacuum isn't that great... I don't find any of the complaints valid except that it isn't great for throw rugs. It does my kitchen and entry way rugs fine since they have rubber backing to hold them in place a little, but my bathroom rugs are not easily cleaned with this. It is not difficult to carry though - you just need to have it upright to lock it in place before lifting it so the head doesn't flop down. It's got a nice handle on the back that works just fine for carrying it up and down stairs and it isn't unusually heavy. I use the hand-held Turbobrush for vacuuming the stairs and think it does a good job. As far as the cord having to be totally undone to get it off the holder - that is incorrect as well. The bottom hook is a swivel so you just turn it down and slide the whole cord off at once.
We bought this from a local shop after checking out several vacuums and it's exactly what we wanted. I'd highly recommend this vacuum - we have kids, 6 cats and a dog and it does an awesome job at keeping up with our filthy floors!
