Bosch Compact Plus Health Guard Canister Vacuum Cleaner BSA 2200UC Review

(More customer reviews)we LOVE this vacuum! our floors are tiled and it cleans them perfectly, not a cat hair escapes. it's fast, has superb suction, and is far quieter than most other vacuums (which, given its supersuction, is somewhat surprising). it's equally skilled at carpeting and furniture - we'll never buy another vacuum again.

Bosch Compact Plus Canister Vacuum Cleaner BSA 2222UC Hard Floor Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This vacuum cleaner is quiet, efficient, easy to carry around.
It sucks up coins even on it's lowest setting, so be careful to pick up first.
It is made for hardwood floors, and it excells at cleaning them.
It is quiet enough, that even on it's highest setting, I can still hear the phone ring.
The built in cord is 17', which sounds like a long enough cord, but really isn't.
Fortunately our house, like most others, has plenty of outlets.
It is built in Germany, so you know it is a quality product made to last.

Bosch BSG71360UC Formula Electro Duo HEPA Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)We moved to a three-story townhouse, and it quickly became clear that my loud, clumsy old Hoover upright was not going to work out in our new home. I nearly went deaf trying to vacuum the stairs, and trying to keep an upright balanced on the steps was an exercise in futility.
So I was convinced that a canister vac was the way to go. This is the second one I tried and the one I decided to keep.
Suction is very good. I'm sure it could be stronger, but given the light weight and the quiet operation, I'm very happy with its ability to clean. In a tradeoff between outright suction and weight, I'm happy to err in favor of a lighter unit, especially with three stories to clean.
The power brush attachment is great on low-to-medium height pile and works better than I'd expected on hardwood floors. A switch to turn the brushroll on and off is right on the handle, which is a must in my book. Crevice, upholstery, and dusting brush attachments are included and fit nicely onboard. They're useful, if a little small.
On the downside, the other reviewers are spot-on with the complaints about the hose length. It could certainly be longer, and though it has a telescoping wand, it's not enough to reach that far overhead.
In addition, I think it would've been more convenient had they put suction strength and on/off controls on the handle, as is the case with the competing Electrolux Oxygen3 that I tried.
I do wish it were priced lower, but after spending many weekends trying out the available alternatives at brick-and-mortar stores, I just couldn't find anything that had the Bosch's virtues with a comparable price. If your priority is having a quiet, compact, and lightweight vacuum with excellent suction and all the essential cleaning tools, it's probably worth the premium.

Bosch Premium Canister Vacuum Cleaner BSG 81380UC Electro Duo XXL HC Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)When I thought it was time to replace my trusty Miele White Pearl I looked to Consumer Reports for my 'research'. This was their top-rated unit ever and it came with a HEPA filter which I really wanted. I can weep when I see the price listed here because when I bought it in 2007 it cost over $2000 (CDN). For that price and with that endorsement I was confident it was a sure bet. I was so very wrong. The design was clever but the ergonomics were poor and I simply hated everything about it. Here's why:
* The hose did not rotate on both the handle AND the vacuum ends -- which means a fair bit of time spent fussing and untwisting it. It was awkward and cumbersome in the extreme.
* The "attachments" are all part of the hand unit which seems really clever while in truth all it means is they will require a fair bit of handling to disassemble the lot of them before you can use them and then you have to 'rebuild' them. Your hands will be all over the business ends so if you are fussy about that kind of stuff, and I am, it will bother you. Once you do get them apart, and the one you need attached, you'll find that not one of them is very good at their intended purpose -- which I suspect is a result of the compromises to functionality their questionable origami-design required. (I loved the hygienic simplicity of my Miele where I could flip open the top of the canister with a tap of my toe and all the tools were nicely laid out for easy access and use.)
* The plastic material is cheap! Within 4 months the handle had already cracked. We are very low impact livers and treat our stuff with great care -- that crack occurred with light use and careful handling.
* The cheap plastic holds static! The vacuum head and hose attracts and holds everything I am trying to vacuum up and the stuff just clings. Gross. I had to interrupt vacuuming to vacuum it off but found that in order to have any success I needed to use a damp clothe to wipe it down. Once vacuuming resumed so did the accumulation.
* The release collar on the telescoping extension is crudely designed and difficult to release. I really struggled with this and had to get my husband to help me on a couple of occasions. I am an able-bodied person and this was ridiculous.
I retired it after less than a year of owning it -- it was retired right into the garbage which is what I thought it was. My cleaning lady asked if she could rescue it and was thrilled to have it -- it was out of her price range and she thought she was getting something special. I assured her she was not. I ended up buying one of the new light weight Miele's that had just came out... I love the long cord and the hose that swivels any which way I want -- when I want it to -- and the head is a marvel that swivels freely too and so easily it even goes flat so I can quickly scoot under the furniture! I especially appreciate that I do not have to vacuum my vacuum in order to vacuum.
Because of this debacle, I lost my faith in Consumer Reports and suspect that their criteria must be very different from the end users. Now before I buy I check out the reviews Amazon.com where I can hear from people who actually use the products. I find it's the most reliable indicator, but even if there are raves about a product or brand there's always going to be someone that got a dud, or had a really bad experience, which in this case was me.

Miele S4582 Eclipse Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I read a lot of reviews from other folks who had purchased Miele machines. Coming from a Hoover bagless with powerhead, I was worried about the extra cost of the Miele, the bags and the lack of powerhead. However, most of my vacuuming is hardwood or tile and what little is carpeted is not a worry. People remarked about the quality of the Miele motor and they were not kidding. Its very powerful and VERY quiet. I need to open the vent on hardwood, otherwise the head will suction to the floor. Its very light, moves easily, the cord retractor is quality and I like the "park" feature. All in all, this Vac is an investment in quality. Shop with confidence.

Fuller Brush Compact Lightweight Canister Vacuum 9 AMP FB-CC1 Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)We purchased this from a local vacuum repair shop after getting our upright repaired. With a little figuring and some pics to go by were we were able to get the unit running pretty quick. Just remember there's a plastic adapter piece that must go between the main handle and the metal tube that serves as an extension and holds the accessories.
Paid extra for the moving vacuum rotating piece (brush) that picks up dirt, but worth it. Good for a small house, rugs were new and everything picked up well.
We looked all over and could not find a place that sold small canister vacuums with a lot of power, big and bulky seems to be the "trend" right now, so we were happy to get this.
For those that are old enough to remember, Fuller Brush co was that company that use to go door to door selling their vacuums. One note, was trying to look up info on their website and very hard to find anything about vacuums. Nothing irritates me more than co's that are there to sell, and yet they make their products very difficult to find online as if we should need to "work" to buy their products.
However as of now, price was good, small, powerful portable and easy to slide into closet storage when not in use.

Detailer Cordless Keyboard and Car Mini Hand Vacuum Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This portable hand vac worked quite well considering I had my doubts about it capabilities. I started off by using it on smaller, light pieces such as cat fur and small dust bunnies. It worked like a charm. Then it was onto medium sized and moderately heavier pieces like food crumbs (due to eating crackers and pretzels in bed). My bed was more comfortable that evening. Finally I tested it on pieces of glass, (after accidently dropping one on the floor). Well, I must say that this "little devil" really pulled (sucked) it's own weight !! I'm so pleased with it that I'm buying another to keep in my car. The only con that this product has is its built-in dust cup which needs emptying frequently enough for it to be somewhat of a nuisance. All in all, I say it's worth its value. Heck, I've spent my money on worst things!! I like this product very much and have told my friends and family about it.

Miele Earth Canister Vacuum Cleaner, S5481 Earth S5 - Marine Blue Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I wrote a lengthy review of this vacuum for my website (feel free to check it out if you want -- see video for URL), but for Amazon I'll summarize it: this is a great vacuum. I haven't had experience with other Miele models, but if this thing is any indication, Miele makes a line of excellent machines. Here is a quick rundown of SOME (but not all) of the advantages and disadvantages of this unit:
Pros:
+Excellent filtration (as good as it gets)
+Quieter than any vacuum I've ever heard
+Low ground clearance
+Well designed/engineered in pretty much every aspect (I love the cord winder, wheels, bags, auto-shutoff, etc!)
+Looks really slick while still subdued (doesn't scream "I'm a Dyson!")
Cons:
-Typical disadvantages of being a canister vac. Sometimes difficult to maneuver around corners/doors, sometimes a pain trying to reposition hose.
-Attaching/detaching certain tools and the wand itself can be a little awkward at times
-Price is steep!
The bottom line is that if you can afford it, you absolutely can't go wrong with this vacuum (or presumably any Miele). I give it 5 stars because, while not *perfect*, it certainly is the best vacuum I've ever seen or used...and by a landslide.
Note: If you have carpet, I'd recommend any model in the S5 line (except the Pisces, which doesn't include a powered brush head). For primarily hard floors, any of the Miele models should meet your needs.

Premium Electro Duo Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)First of all, I've never bought into the notion that a pricey vacuum does any better job than a less expensive Hoover. Until now. I did my research and checked Consumer Reports.org extensively before forking over big $$$ for this Bosch. It is worth ever nickel. It's quiet, does an excellent job on all floor types and is extremely easy to maneuver compared to my old Hoover wind tunnels. If you have the cash, I HIGHLY recommend it as a good investment.

Miele S4780 Orion Galaxy Canister Vacuum ( Black ) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Like many good but expensive things you really have to try one of these to appreciate the difference. Some years ago I couldn't justify the cost of a Miele so I bought a $400, top-of-the-line Eureka. It did everything 80% of the way. Got 80% of the dust, reached in 80% of the tight spaces...the cord even retracted 80% of the way.
If you're in the market for a Hoover, I'm sure it will do a decent job. But if you only want to vacuum that stuff once, consider the Miele which does everything well and is amazingly quiet, too. To quote Heidi Fleiss, "Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten."

Miele S5280 Pisces Caniser Vacuum Cleaner w/205 Turbo-Brush Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I have a dog who sheds (a lot) and my children and I have allergies and asthma. My allergist recommended that I vacuum every day. But the problem was that I *hated* vacuuming - my old vacuum got stuck under my kichen cabinets, had a short hose that couldn't reach high enough to do any dusting, and (although it was a 'hepa' model) it was dirty and dusty. Vacuuming was frustrating and irritating.
It was time for a new vacuum cleaner and so I went to an actual vacuum cleaner store to try out different models. Prior to that visit, I had never even heard of the Miele. After trying out several Dyson models, it was love at first sight with the Miele Callisto! I came home and vacuumed with my old Hoover wind tunnel, then immediately vacuumed with the Miele and couldn't believe how much it picked up! I'm not the type of person who could have ever imagined myself paying this much for a vacuum cleaner, but I'm so glad I did!! It was worth it!!
Here's my summary:
What I like:
* It's so easy to use that I don't mind vacuuming and dusting (as much!).
* The Miele picks up dog hair from all floor types - carpet, linoleum, tile, and hardwood. Yeah!
* I don't sneeze while I'm vacuuming because it's not spitting out any dusty exhaust.
* There's a special setting to use (with lower suction) for cleaning curtains.
* The hose is powered, so the beater brush is powered (I didn't care for the Miele models with air-powered brushes).
* The attachments (except for the hardwood floor attachment) fit on the unit so they won't get lost.
* The turbobrush head swivels, which makes it very easy to vacuum around tables, couches, whatever.
* The Miele has really good suction right up until it's time to change the bag. My Hoover would have great suction for a few times, and then went downhill fast!
* This Miele has a telescoping wand which makes it super easy to clean the tops of paintings, ceiling fans, and chandeliers.
* It's small, and light, and doesn't take up much space in my closet. My old Hoover was a tank... big, awkward, and heavy!
What I didn't like:
* The power cord is too short. If it was about 5' longer, it would be perfect.
* The consumables (bags, HEPA filter) are expensive.

The floorhead provided with the S5280 MedicAir vacuum cleaner now features the Allergotec hygiene sensor, a device which automatically detects particulate contamination levels. The heart and soul of the hygiene is a small metal sensor plate located above the floorhead at the connection to the suction tube. Allergens, which adhere to household dust particles, impact this plate on their passage through the air duct, releasing tiny electrical impulses. As well as ensuring superb levels of hygiene, the Miele Active HEPA filter also guarantees odour-free room air, thanks to its layer of activated charcoal. Electronic suction control allows the vacuum cleaner to adapt with ease to different floor coverings. Miele S7 Bolero S7580 Upright Vacuum Cleaner + HEPA Filter w/ Free Shipping Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)After years of using an old recycled vacuum my wife and I decided to replace it with a HEPA filter model. She prefers upright so we went shopping. Went to a very reliable store that carried many brands and the floor model of this vacuum performed much better than the rest we tried. So we went home with this pricey model. Immediately we recognized this vacuum really provided much more suction than we were used to and everything looked much cleaner. But....we have a dog that sheds and this thing clogs up easily. Even if you pay very close attention to the bag fill monitor. Even then it's hard to tell if you are close to fill or not - it's only when it locks up that you recognize to change the bag. So twice we have had to take it to the shop for cleaning out of dog hair and/or Christmas tree needles. This is not a task you can do by yourself. Then, the entire vacuum lost power to the motherboard and we lost all power. Our dealer replaced it no questions, but the next version had a broken spring on the wheels so the vacuum was tilted and didn't roll across the floor correctly. Again the dealer replaced it. So now we are on our third vacuum in a year and the brush motor started whining so we took it in yesterday and today I learn we'll have to replace it again. Still waiting to see if the warranty will kick in or not. If not, this is our last upright Miele vacuum. I'll buy something much cheaper, more reliable, and easy to repair/clean by the consumer.

Haan SV-60 Hard-Floor Steam Vacuum Cleaner Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The Haan SV 60 is a Great Machine! My problem is with Amazon - The specifications clearly state that there is only ONE microfiber pad included and that the "optional carpet tray can be purchased separately." ONE microfiber pad leaves the 200.00 steam vac USELESS!!!! I have purchased pads, but they don't fit at all.... I just grin and bear it because I love the steamer..... As for carpets, I can't use my SV 60 on my carpets because NO ONE, ANY WHERE, can help me find a carpet tray....... I should have researched and purchased one from another vendor that includes FOUR microfiber pads AND the carpet tray with agitator brush...... The 50.00 extra that I would have paid would have been MONEY WELL SPENT ...... you cannot put a price on the time and effort I have spent trying to PAY for PADS that FIT and the Carpet Tray...... Buyer Beware!!!! Somehow, be CERTAIN of the contents of the box.....

Miele Tango Upright Vacuum Cleaner - S7580 Tango S7 - Titan Red Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Currently, there is only one other review on this vac, and it is one star. I'm not quite sure why that is. I think this is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. Our previous vacuum died and we needed it to replace it. This last one was the latest in a procession of vacuums that had died after only a couple of years' use.
Apologies to Amazon (from whom I buy nearly everything), but at this price for a vacuum, I wanted local input in a store from an expert. Indeed, the local Miele rep was an expert and put this machine and the favorably reviewed Callisto (?) through their paces for my wife and myself. My wife is only interested in an upright vacuum, although she was tempted by the Callisto. Neither one of us felt like the Tango was particularly heavy, and there is a convenient carrying handle mounted on the machine in a place that makes it particularly easy to carry around. Unlike many vacs, the suction for the floor piece does not go through the hose. When the hose is placed in its home, its suction is turned off and diverted to the floor piece. The machine seems incredibly well made (as it should be for the price). It also articulates where the upright part fits into the floor piece, which allows you to change the angle of the path of the floor sweeper very easily. It picks up all the way out to the edges, and gets under cabinet overhangs quite well. To get under beds, one just wraps the cord around a cord lock under the handle and drops the handle down flat to the floor while holding on to the cord. This allows vacuuming under spaces like beds or tables without bending over.
The difference between this model and the Calypso, $200 cheaper is the controls. The rest seems to be the same. Controls on the cheaper model are mechanical while they are touch key electronic on the more expensive one. Also, on the more expensive unit, there is an 'Automatic' setting which is supposed to determine the type of floor (carpet, tile, scatter rug) and adjust the vacuum power automatically.
I'll try to post a follow up in a few months...
*******************
It's now August 2010. Vacuum cleaner is still performing well. Only one issue so far is that the red finish is not terribly durable. Lots of scrapes and scuffs, but I don't keep the unit on display with a stand. It lives in the closet. So, I'm still quite happy with the purchase.

Miele S5 Earth Canister Vacuum Cleaner Model S5481+one Year Suppli Kit Review

(More customer reviews)Love the allergy filtration system, but for the price, it has two design flaws. The on/off switch is located in a position for ease to turn on and off, but it also is in a position that makes it easy to accidentally cut off during use. This is very inconvenient. Also, the hose is very stiff and inflexible. During use, it folds back on itself and you have to keep straightening it out. Also, after only 3 months, the hose actually cracked open. Was disappointed in the hose for the price of this item. Would not recommend this product, until the design flaws are fixed.

SEBO 9803AM Felix Fun Upright Vacuum Cleaner 12" Cleaning Path Review

(More customer reviews)I hate vacuuming. Really hate it. But I think this product will help me at least put up with it. It arrived today, and I have to say I am impressed with how thoroughly it cleans. Fluff and dog hairs that our Dyson failed to lift off carpets were gone in one sweep. After only 2 rooms, the bag is almost full (yuck!).
How did we end up with this vacuum cleaner? We moved to the US from the UK 3 years ago. In the UK, we had a Henry vacuum, which was fantastic. But US voltage differs from UK voltage, so we had to leave our Henry behind. When we arrived in the small US town we now live in, our local store offered us a very limited range of vacuums, so we bought a Dyson. It was a brand we recognized, and had a good reputation. How I regretted it. It never cleaned carpet well, and as it aged, it seemed to get worse. A week ago, after resorting (for the N-th time) to using the unadorned end of the hose -- without any kind of head or brush -- to try to lift off the black bits left by my other half's socks, I snapped. The Dyson was forthwith banished to the garage. To cut a long story short, I selected this make of vacuum cleaner based on the reviews here on Amazon, and on other consumer sites.
It shipped from a partner site, and arrived 2 days after I ordered it. It was very simple to assemble (just one screw to tighten, otherwise things clicking together), and I was using it within 20 minutes of opening the box. It seems very straightforward to use.
Things I particularly like:
* The power head. There are 4 settings, for different types of carpet. You can tell if it needs moving to a different setting because an amber light comes on (if the setting is OK, there is a green light)
* The variable speed of suction. Rather than a simple on/off switch, there is a slider that goes from off to top speed via a range of other speeds. Very useful if you want to vacuum something more delicate like an old rug.
* The swivel head and handle. These make it very easy to slide the head under furniture and into corners.
Things I will have to get used to:
* The weight. It's heavier than I am accustomed to.
* Changing the head for wood floors. The Dyson had a multi-functional head (which was probably why it was so useless on carpet).
Things I think could be improved, given the price:
* It should ship with at least a few spare bags.
* There is no dust brush included. This is one of the most useful accessories a vacuum cleaner can have (particularly this one, with its ability to finely control the amount of "suck"). In this price bracket, a dust brush should be standard
* Before I bought this, I hadn't registered the difference between the Felix Fun/Classic and the Ice Blue. I thought it was just the color. But looking at the users manual, it appears that the Ice Blue has a 15" head, whereas the Fun and Classic have a 12" head. It turns out that a 12" head is fine for me, given the arrangement of my furniture (some tight spots), but given the amount of carpet I have, I may well have bought the 15" head Ice Blue version had I realized.
All in all, so far I am very pleased with the product, despite the above shortcomings.
