Miele S 514 Direct Connect Canister Vacuum Review

Miele S 514 Direct Connect Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a wonderful vacuum cleaner, they thought of everything. It's powerful (both in volume of air moved and ultimate vacuum), quiet, and doesn't emit the hot dusty smell I get with most vacuum cleaners. A plastic piece on the floor brush mates with a slot in the body, so you can carry and store the vacuum and hose neatly and easily. The hose is removable, and comes apart, so if anything gets stuck in it, it's easy to find and remove. The hose is even slightly transparent, so you can take off the angled pieces and peer down it to make sure it's free of obstrutions. If you damage one piece (I haven't, in years of clumsy use), you can replace just that piece, not all the other bits. The bags have a little door that covers the opening when removing it, so they don't puff dust everywhere when you pull out a full bag.

Miele S4582 Eclipse Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

I read a lot of reviews from other folks who had purchased Miele machines. Coming from a Hoover bagless with powerhead, I was worried about the extra cost of the Miele, the bags and the lack of powerhead. However, most of my vacuuming is hardwood or tile and what little is carpeted is not a worry. People remarked about the quality of the Miele motor and they were not kidding. Its very powerful and VERY quiet. I need to open the vent on hardwood, otherwise the head will suction to the floor. Its very light, moves easily, the cord retractor is quality and I like the "park" feature. All in all, this Vac is an investment in quality. Shop with confidence.

Bosch Formula Electro Duo Plus Hepa Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Bosch Formula Electro Duo Plus Hepa Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I do heavy research on everything I buy. Here are my thoughts on buying this canister vacuum: Impressions
The Bosch Formula BSG71370UC is amazing: high performance, solid construction, convenient design. Small/light enough to be portable, but large enough to have built in attachment storage and a high capacity bag system. Suction power is adjustable, providing two things. First, full power is to powerful for some surfaces (there are warnings in the manual). Second, running at normal/low power, the unit is quieter than a microwave oven and you think its not pulling well until you put your hand over the hose - yeow! First impression of the first use on carpet that got regularly vacuumed: "wow, its looks like its been washed!" Attachments
This is the top of the formula line, including the turbo upholstery attachment. This draws energy from the airflow on the suction and transfers it to a scrubbing brush, with the sound of a turbo charger. This and all the attachments work like gang busters. The main carpet wand has a switch for turning the large scrubber's electric motor on/off (carpet/floors), and the suction with the crevice tool is so strong, nothing gets away. Even with the integrated motor, the head of this unit is low profile enough to fit in and around most furniture. The cord auto retracts, just give it a tug and let go. You can pull the canister itself behind you, the 3-360 wheels turn on a dime, but getting around objects still requires pull. With cleaning power combined with multiple filters, this is ideal for people with allergies. Floors
It handles bare floors mightily, just flip the handle located power switch to off to stop the spinning brush. For complete area cleaning, the small brush attachment hits the baseboards and low walls. The units wheels, of course, handle even better. Hair
My main use for this and the reason I bought this unit is cat hair, a job it handles well. With 2 sizes of scrubbing nozzles, no unattached hair can hide for long. Parts
In the configuration for full carpet/floors, it comes apart in 3 sections, hose, tube/handle, and powered nozzle. All 3 require both hands to disconnect, one to squeeze the release mechanism and the other to pull. One of the extra's on this unit is that the power wires for the motorized head are integrated into the tubes/hoses. This makes for quick dis/connects. Negatives
1) The hose is supposed to spin 360 degrees to avoid tangles but doesn't spin freely enough to work without thought. 2) I like responsive switches. The power switch has a lag time, designed to be used by feet so you have to hold a moment to turn it on and off. 3) Price is high, but abcvacuum.com cuts right through this. Surprise Use
Dust Buster replacement: Leaving it parked and plugged in, full time behind the sofa my cat frequents. Its so quiet on low, the bits moving down the pipe make more noise than the motor. Long Term Update
Having it for many months now, here's what else I've learned. The bag full gauge is tough to read, so the easiest way to tell the bag needs changing is that suction goes down - ie when you find yourself using full power. The turbo attachment isn't much more powerful than the standard small nozzle nor as powerful as the electric nozzle. So provided its clean, the floor/carpet electric nozzle cleans upholstery with gusto, leaving the turbo nozzle doing just the hard to reach places. And last but not least, a WONDERFUL way to clean stairs is by connecting the electric power floor/carpet nozzle directly to the wand, leaving the extension tube off. Alternatives
The rule with canister vacs is dexterity, the rule with uprights is mobility. This is my favorite canister, the Eureka Sanitaire SC6600 is my favorite upright:
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Eureka_Sanitaire_SC6600A_Upright_Vacuum
Both do carpets + floors + elevated/hose suction. Decide for yourself which is more important. Canister = superior clean, upright = superior speed. The Sanitaire SC6600 is better for on-the-go use, with a 3 stage power switch with off/suction/suction scrub. The second position is for floors and if you're in the third (doing carpets) and pull out the hose for spot cleaning, it automatically switches to the second and then back again when you reinsert.
Sanitaire (eureka) also makes a canister thats worth looking at but with which I have no personal experience. Oddly, its sold under their commercial brand so its hard to find:

Fuller Brush Compact Lightweight Canister Vacuum 9 AMP FB-CC1 Review

Fuller Brush Compact Lightweight Canister Vacuum 9 AMP FB-CC1

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this from a local vacuum repair shop after getting our upright repaired. With a little figuring and some pics to go by were we were able to get the unit running pretty quick. Just remember there's a plastic adapter piece that must go between the main handle and the metal tube that serves as an extension and holds the accessories.
Paid extra for the moving vacuum rotating piece (brush) that picks up dirt, but worth it. Good for a small house, rugs were new and everything picked up well.
We looked all over and could not find a place that sold small canister vacuums with a lot of power, big and bulky seems to be the "trend" right now, so we were happy to get this.
For those that are old enough to remember, Fuller Brush co was that company that use to go door to door selling their vacuums. One note, was trying to look up info on their website and very hard to find anything about vacuums. Nothing irritates me more than co's that are there to sell, and yet they make their products very difficult to find online as if we should need to "work" to buy their products.
However as of now, price was good, small, powerful portable and easy to slide into closet storage when not in use.

Miele Earth Canister Vacuum Cleaner, S5481 Earth S5 - Marine Blue Review

Miele Earth Canister Vacuum Cleaner, S5481 Earth S5 - Marine Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wrote a lengthy review of this vacuum for my website (feel free to check it out if you want -- see video for URL), but for Amazon I'll summarize it: this is a great vacuum. I haven't had experience with other Miele models, but if this thing is any indication, Miele makes a line of excellent machines. Here is a quick rundown of SOME (but not all) of the advantages and disadvantages of this unit:
Pros:
+Excellent filtration (as good as it gets)
+Quieter than any vacuum I've ever heard
+Low ground clearance
+Well designed/engineered in pretty much every aspect (I love the cord winder, wheels, bags, auto-shutoff, etc!)
+Looks really slick while still subdued (doesn't scream "I'm a Dyson!")
Cons:
-Typical disadvantages of being a canister vac. Sometimes difficult to maneuver around corners/doors, sometimes a pain trying to reposition hose.
-Attaching/detaching certain tools and the wand itself can be a little awkward at times
-Price is steep!
The bottom line is that if you can afford it, you absolutely can't go wrong with this vacuum (or presumably any Miele). I give it 5 stars because, while not *perfect*, it certainly is the best vacuum I've ever seen or used...and by a landslide.
Note: If you have carpet, I'd recommend any model in the S5 line (except the Pisces, which doesn't include a powered brush head). For primarily hard floors, any of the Miele models should meet your needs.

Miele S4780 Orion Galaxy Canister Vacuum ( Black ) Review

Miele S4780 Orion Galaxy Canister Vacuum ( Black )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many good but expensive things you really have to try one of these to appreciate the difference. Some years ago I couldn't justify the cost of a Miele so I bought a $400, top-of-the-line Eureka. It did everything 80% of the way. Got 80% of the dust, reached in 80% of the tight spaces...the cord even retracted 80% of the way.
If you're in the market for a Hoover, I'm sure it will do a decent job. But if you only want to vacuum that stuff once, consider the Miele which does everything well and is amazingly quiet, too. To quote Heidi Fleiss, "Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten."

Miele S5280 Pisces Caniser Vacuum Cleaner w/205 Turbo-Brush Review

Miele S5280 Pisces Caniser Vacuum Cleaner w/205 Turbo-Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a dog who sheds (a lot) and my children and I have allergies and asthma. My allergist recommended that I vacuum every day. But the problem was that I *hated* vacuuming - my old vacuum got stuck under my kichen cabinets, had a short hose that couldn't reach high enough to do any dusting, and (although it was a 'hepa' model) it was dirty and dusty. Vacuuming was frustrating and irritating.
It was time for a new vacuum cleaner and so I went to an actual vacuum cleaner store to try out different models. Prior to that visit, I had never even heard of the Miele. After trying out several Dyson models, it was love at first sight with the Miele Callisto! I came home and vacuumed with my old Hoover wind tunnel, then immediately vacuumed with the Miele and couldn't believe how much it picked up! I'm not the type of person who could have ever imagined myself paying this much for a vacuum cleaner, but I'm so glad I did!! It was worth it!!
Here's my summary:
What I like:
* It's so easy to use that I don't mind vacuuming and dusting (as much!).
* The Miele picks up dog hair from all floor types - carpet, linoleum, tile, and hardwood. Yeah!
* I don't sneeze while I'm vacuuming because it's not spitting out any dusty exhaust.
* There's a special setting to use (with lower suction) for cleaning curtains.
* The hose is powered, so the beater brush is powered (I didn't care for the Miele models with air-powered brushes).
* The attachments (except for the hardwood floor attachment) fit on the unit so they won't get lost.
* The turbobrush head swivels, which makes it very easy to vacuum around tables, couches, whatever.
* The Miele has really good suction right up until it's time to change the bag. My Hoover would have great suction for a few times, and then went downhill fast!
* This Miele has a telescoping wand which makes it super easy to clean the tops of paintings, ceiling fans, and chandeliers.
* It's small, and light, and doesn't take up much space in my closet. My old Hoover was a tank... big, awkward, and heavy!
What I didn't like:
* The power cord is too short. If it was about 5' longer, it would be perfect.
* The consumables (bags, HEPA filter) are expensive.

The floorhead provided with the S5280 MedicAir vacuum cleaner now features the Allergotec hygiene sensor, a device which automatically detects particulate contamination levels. The heart and soul of the hygiene is a small metal sensor plate located above the floorhead at the connection to the suction tube. Allergens, which adhere to household dust particles, impact this plate on their passage through the air duct, releasing tiny electrical impulses. As well as ensuring superb levels of hygiene, the Miele Active HEPA filter also guarantees odour-free room air, thanks to its layer of activated charcoal. Electronic suction control allows the vacuum cleaner to adapt with ease to different floor coverings. Love the allergy filtration system, but for the price, it has two design flaws. The on/off switch is located in a position for ease to turn on and off, but it also is in a position that makes it easy to accidentally cut off during use. This is very inconvenient. Also, the hose is very stiff and inflexible. During use, it folds back on itself and you have to keep straightening it out. Also, after only 3 months, the hose actually cracked open. Was disappointed in the hose for the price of this item. Would not recommend this product, until the design flaws are fixed.

Miele cleaner was recommended to us. The wood floor attachment gets into every corner - it's incredible compared to the thing we had. The electric powered carpet head also works very well. Very pleased with the unit.
In trying to decide which model to buy. started at the Miele web site where they list features - such as the electric powered carpet head - included in certain models. However on the web I found different prices for the same model, and it seems that for any one model what different web sites include is not be the same - specifically for the model I bought, Callisto, there were several web sites advertizing that model but in the fine print they said it included the vacuum powered carpet head, not the far superior, and more expensive - electric powered head.
The unit we have is great - just be careful to check what some of the vendors are offering...

Miele S2180 Titan Canister Vacuum - Chili Red Review

Miele S2180 Titan Canister Vacuum - Chili Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Miele is a family-owned German manufacturer of home appliances. The company's philosophy of continuous improvement ("Immer Besser") has made them a favorite throughout the world. Their products don't have bargain prices, but provide value in high quality design and manufacturing that results in superior performance and durability. Miele was founded in 1899 and began producing vacuum cleaners in 1927; their vacuums have become favorites of professionals worldwide, including many top-end hotel staffs.
The Miele S2 line of canister vacuums is new for 2009, offering the quality and many of Miele's standard features at a lower price. There are four S2 models, all sharing the same 1200-watt base vacuum. The canister has six power settings and a standard air filter that catches 94% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The Olympus model is the lowest priced of the S2 line, and features a floor/carpet combo head (SBD350-3), non-electric hose and a telescoping wand. The Capri model substitutes the air-powered Turbobrush (STB205-3) for the floor/carpet combo head, and adds the Parquet Floor Brush (SBB-3). The Delphi model substitutes a power head (SEB217-3), electric hose (SES116) and electric telescoping wand (SET220) for the non-powered components of the Olympus. The Titan model retains the power components of the Delphi and adds the parquet floor brush (SBB-3) and active HEPA filter.
Note that all S2 models can support the power hose and brush, but only the Delphi and Titan include it as part of the package. Similarly, all S2 models support the active HEPA filter, but only the Titan includes it in its package. If you don't currently need a power head you can buy the Olympus or Capri and add the power components later; you'll pay more in the end, but you won't have to buy power components now that you may not need for a few years. The non-electric combo head works well on smooth flooring, is usable on short-pile carpet, and is difficult to use on deeper-pile carpet.
Like all Miele vacuum cleaners, the S2 is well designed and manufactured in Germany. The vacuum has a range of 29.5 feet from the end of the self-retracting power cord to the tip of the brush. The unit is light (under 10 lbs), nicely balanced and moves easily in any direction on its casters. The top-exhaust design allows you to vacuum easily with the canister standing up, such as on steps. The motor is surprisingly quiet, particularly at the lower power levels. The six power levels allow you to switch from floors and carpets to shelves and tabletops without accidentally grabbing objects or papers instead of dirt or dust.
The S2 cleans very well and is a pleasure to use. The base has notches in which the hose can be parked, one for when the base is on its wheels, one for when the base is standing. This is a great touch, useful for temporarily standing the hose while you move a piece of furniture, and helpful for storing the vacuum in a closet without breaking down the hose and wand. Perhaps the only weakness of the S2 is the "varioclip" for tool storage, which rides somewhat uncomfortably on the hose rather than more naturally on the base. Changing the filter and bag are each a snap, and an indicator tells you when the bag is full.
Finally, what compromises does the S2 line make from the more expensive S4 and S5 lines? The most obvious changes are to external components: a few parts, such as the bumper strip that surrounds the canister, are made from hard plastic rather than softer rubber. The operating radius is a few feet shorter (due to a shorter power cord), and the accessory brushes use some lower-cost materials (nylon versus natural bristle brush, plastic instead of metal). Inside, the S2 canister uses Miele's "CleanAir System" construction, while the S4 and S5 canister use its "Sealed System." Miele doesn't offer a detailed comparison of the two, but one might assume the latter system provides an extra measure of dust capture that may be more appropriate for those with allergic sensitivities.
The changes made to lower the price of the S2 line will make small differences in daily use, but shouldn't compromise the vacuum's core ability to clean. Those who are especially sensitive to dust should consider the HEPA-equipped Titan model, or stepping up to the S4 or S5; those with less stringent needs will find the S2 a terrific entry point to the Miele line of high quality vacuums. If budget is no issue, look at the S5 line, but if value-per-dollar is a major consideration, the S2 line will bring you Miele's engineering and manufacturing prowess at a more affordable price. Good replacement bags for Miele canister style vacuum, but not as thicker. And the area surrounding the hole opening made out of flimsy cardboard, not sturdy plastic like the original. But for the price you are paying with these compare to the original, not bad. You get what you pay for.

Miele Capricorn S5981 with SEB 217 Power Nozzel Review

Miele Capricorn S5981 with SEB 217 Power Nozzel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this vacuum because I had gotten more than tired of having to replace my main vacuum every 2 years or so. Being originally from Germany, I was very familiar with the Miele brand and liked their excellent reputation.
Here are some points with regards to the Capricorn:
The Good:
1. Excellent suction.
I am not exaggerating when I say that my carpets look much cleaner than before after having used this vacuum on them. Even my husband noticed and like most men, he is not exactly observant when it comes to this kind of thing. The suction can be adjusted right there at the handle, no need to bend down.
2. Quiet.
Even with the motorized power brush on this vacuum is fairly quiet. No, you cannot have a phone conversation when this is running and you probably can't follow your favorite TV show while vacuuming but I still felt that it is a lot quieter than the average upright.
3. Convenience.
- It has specialty tools on-board so that there is no need to go back to the storage room to grab the upholstery brush, etc. With the pressing of a button the top lid on the canister opens and there are three tools neatly stored. Not like it is with other vacuums where some of these smaller tools are stored in the handle and have a tendency to fall off frequently. This here actually works.
- The vacuum turns on and off at the handle. Also the motorized power brush turns off automatically when it is left in the locked upright position thus preventing damage to carpets from the brush rotating in place while it is not moved.
- The power cable rolls up into the canister by depressing a foot pedal. Finally having to manually roll up cables on uprights is a thing of the past!
4. Overall Quality.
- This is a quality appliance, with the high quality apparent in the materials used and even in such small details as the satisfying sound when the cable rolls up in the canister (I have had other vacuums where that sounded like the plastic housing was going to crack any moment when rolling up the cable). It is actually manufactured in Germany, not somewhere in Asia - the label on the underside of the canister says "Made in Germany".
- Miele states on their website that they have strict quality standards to manufacture each and every appliance to a 20-year minimum product life standard. While obviously I cannot speak to the truth of this (having owned this vacuum only for a few months), I know that any Miele vacuum that is owned by family and friends in Germany has been working for 10+/15+ years, no exceptions that I know of. This makes me confident in that they mean what they say.
- The vacuum bags. I admit it - I am looking forward to changing the vacuum bags on this baby! I have never before seen bags like these. The first time I opened the canister to check whether there was one installed already, I thought this was some permanent bag in which to put the actual paper vacuum bag. Not so. This WAS the actual bag. It is padded, coated, I don't know but it feels like not the tiniest dust particle would ever escape this bag once inside.
Things that could be improved upon:
1. The weight.
Make no mistake - this is one substantial piece of equipment, especially with the motorized power brush attached. Pulling the canister behind me and at the same time pushing the heavy power brush when vacuuming deep-pile carpets is exhausting and comes close to a work-out. I guess the quality of the equipment does translate into heftier weight, but it would be great if the wheels worked smoother on deep carpet so that the pulling wouldn't be such a chore. I personally find that the canister stalls too often, especially when trying to reverse direction.
2. The included floor brushes.
This particular offer comes with both the motorized power brush and a parquet floor brush. I use the first one on carpet, the latter on hard wood or vinyl. What I would have loved to also see included is a smaller brush suitable for carpeted stairs. The power brush is too wide and too heavy to really use on stairs. It is possible to use it but not ideal. There is another brush available for that but it costs an additional 70 dollars or so. I really believe this should be included in the first place.
Summary:
Would I buy it again? Absolutely. I think this appliance does an excellent job getting my carpets as clean as they can possibly be. I love the convenience of operating it via the handle with no need to bend down. And I am a sucker for the overall quality feel. But if I had a say, I would improve a few things which to me, however, are minor enough to not deduct too many points.

Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush Review

Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know alot of people would balk at the idea of paying this much for a vaccum cleaner, understandably so. Quite honestly, I spent a long time weighing my options and researching for this purchase. In the end I went with this one because of the quality, the warranty and how well it worked.
Previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel upright, and there is just simple no comparison, in fact the Hoover is joke. It was a complete tank of a machine, hard to move around, attachments were useless and you could not fit into alot of areas. And in the end, it did was not even close to as effective at cleaning floors, which is really all that matters.
The reasons for going with the Miele:
How effectively it cleans floors! My carpets never looked so good, my hardwood and tile were never to easy to clean.
Long-term investment. You might get sick of a Miele vacuum before it breaks on you.
Technology inside is second to none.
Tried and true design, German engineering and quality. The parts have a nice feel to them, thick plastics, horse-hair brushes. Nothing felt cheap, or loose or flimsy.
Exceptionally quiet.
Size of the machine is small, but make no mistake it is incredibly powerful. About the best feature I have noticed so far about this machine, going from an upright, is the ability to get into tight spaces I could not before.
Controls on the handle are more convenient than I gave credit too before I purchased. Although you can save a decent chunk of change by getting the Calisto with a knob or two instead, if you don't mind. Same motor and power as the Capricorn.
The air quality, oh the air quality! Something we never thought important before, but we don't smell ONE thing while vacuuming. Even if you stick your face over the exhaust! They aren't kidding about these filters, they work and work well. No dust spitting back out into your house all over your furniture.
Some other features that are nice are the onboard attachments, the wheels on the canister that move in any direction (very smart feature), Warning lights on the machine letting you know bag is filled, or machine is over-heated. Cord-wrap is also excellent, and strong. Hard floor tool does an excellent job, simply excellent, you will never need a broom again.
I find almost nothing I don't like about the machine so far, except that occasionally you hit the wrong button on the hand controls unintentionally.
Otherwise the fit and finish is superb, German quality through and through, a real Mercedes of Vacuum cleaners. Some vaccum cleaners (actually most) just re-distribute the dust and dirt in your house. This once truly gets rid of it. And very nice to look at too. : )

Miele : S5281 Callisto Canister Vacuum Review

Miele : S5281 Callisto Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Apparently 3rd in the hierarchy of 4 models in the new S5 series of Miele vacuum cleaners, the features, price, and accessories are not exactly linear in transition from lower to higher models, nor even across series. Many of the older series models have more features and a higher price than the newer ones. They have fancy names like Capricorn, Red Velvet, and Champagne, leading to much confusion and forcing you to compare each one similar to buying a car. If your browser has tabbed browsing (e.g., Firefox), the best way to figure out which model is best for you is to go to Miele's website and open a tab for each model you're interested in. Flip back and forth to see what text changes. Callisto is the cheapest no frills model of the newest series (newest technology motor?) that still comes with an electronically powered brush (the 4th Pisces model is turbo).
After 3 months of extensive use:
Pros:
Agility - The 10 ½" wide SEB217-3 electric powerbrush comes standard, and one of the reasons I chose this model. For me, smaller is better. While other vacuums advertise large 13" power brushes to cover more area in a single swipe, I don't have much open carpet space. Coffee tables, chairs, weight benches, and computers, all need vacuuming around and under. The powerbrush swivels well to get around corners.
Brush duster - The most commonly used attachment (for me), the brush duster is also small (slightly larger in diameter than the hose) and the bristles are durable. It's angled by default, but even this plastic piece swivels to straighten out. This is not mentioned anywhere; you just have to figure this out for yourself. On low power, I was able to vacuum places that never got vacuumed before, like over the spider web of computer cables and telephone wires. I even vacuumed the telephone itself and other dust collecting objects on my desk.
Parquet floor brush - Initially, I wondered why Miele would include this accessory when the powerbrush was included, but this "wider brush duster" actually does a better job on hard tiled floors than the powerbrush. The powerbrush seems more designed to churn up stuff from carpets, but the paraquet brush gathers and collects dust stuck to hard surfaces better. On the negative side, you might have to vacuum the brush itself to unstuck the dust, and I wondered why they had to inconvenience the horse for "genuine horse bristles". There is no permanent storage on the vacuum cleaner for the parquet brush, so you have to figure out how to ensure the parts don't get separated for life (the powerbrush takes precedence).
Cord rewind - The mechanical rewind sucked in the entire length of cord every single time, something like 15 for 15 times! (The manual says to pull out the entire length of cord before use to help dissipate heat.)
Cons:
Price - After all, it's just a vacuum cleaner. There also seems to be price fixing in the newer S5 series, at least when I bought this. Everywhere I checked (maybe 10 websites), the price was exactly $799 or $799.95, with the only difference being no tax and/or free shipping. One website even advertised "The lowest price allowed!" What's a Diamond Dealer? Is this Amway?
Release buttons - The release buttons on the attachments and hose are counterintuitive, being on the part that "comes off" rather than on the part that "stays behind". Therefore, you must squeeze the button with the same hand you are pulling away with. The hose extension button is particularly confusing. It's an oval shaped rocker button that "rocks" very little. To extend the stainless steel hose, you have to remember which side of the button (top or bottom) to press. There is no distinction on which side to press, and it's always a matter of trial and error as I yank and tug at the hose while pressing top and bottom of the extension button.
Stiff no swivel hose - The hose rotates at the top (handle area), but does not swivel at the base where it connects to the machine. Instead of disconnecting and reconnecting to get rid of twists, I'd rather pick up the powerhead and spin it around to get out the twists. The flex hose diameter is larger than I'm used to, making the hose stiffer and difficult to store in the same closet where I used to store my old vacuum cleaner. Considering the price, an electrical slip ring would have been nice.
Bag full indicator - The mechanical bag full indicator is actually an indicator of how much the vacuum cleaner is straining to suck. Put your hand over the end to block suction and it will indicate bag full. Right out of the box on short carpet, it indicated bag full on high power. As I turned the power down, it indicated less full sequentially. You have to read the instructions about using the floor tool with the tool slightly off the floor to get an accurate reading from the indicator. Even at that, there are caveats about fine dust or pet hair that can fool the indicator.
Extra stuff? - The parquet brush comes attached with a short plastic extension that was difficult to plug directly into the stainless steel hose (button doesn't easily click into place). The extension isn't needed to connect the parquet brush, so you have to remove it and keep track of where you put it. To this day, I still haven't figured out what the extension is for, other than to connect other attachments that I might buy in the future. This is yet another piece with no place to store on the vacuum cleaner that I must ensure does not get separated for life (along with the parquet brush, "normal" filter cage, and replacement bags).
Symbol marking - The power symbol markings are not obvious at all, contrary to claims. Other than the symbols labels "Min" and "Max", you have to read the instructions to figure out what the other power symbols mean. At least the power seems to increase sequentially as you turn the dial clockwise. The Quite Mode is #4 of 6 settings (with 6 being the highest), and is therefore not actually the quietest but intended to be the "normal" operating mode. I think most people will consider "Max" the default mode.
Optional filter frame - This model comes with a HEPA filter, so you don't need the filter frame unless you're going to switch to the "normal" filters, but brand-new right out of the box the frame for the normal filters came with a broken cheap plastic handle, apparently due to the way it was shipped with the handle protruding out the cardboard wrapping. You don't even need the handle for the frame to function properly, but for the kind of money I paid, nothing should be broken out of the box. The vendor that I bought it from (Best Vacuum) replaced it for free.
So is it worth $800? It does a good job, but only time will tell...

Miele S2120 Delphi Canister Vacuum - Lotus White Review

Miele S2120 Delphi Canister Vacuum - Lotus White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this vacuum for Christmas (yes, I know. But in hubby's defense I actually asked for a new vacuum for Christmas). He did TONS of research to identify a canister vac that met my needs: had to use bags, had to be light and good with pet hair. By getting this as a gift cost wasn't as much of a concern as it was kind of a treat, and let me tell you--this is totally worth the cost. It's super light, super quiet, and super effective. I can vacuum while having a conversation, that's how quiet it is. And you can easily take it up and down the stairs. It has a handy little hook that allows you to connect the hose and bar to the canister so that you can carry it all with one hand.
It is so easy to take this vacuum out that I find myself cleaning more frequently than I did before. And its multi-level suction capability makes it perfect for everything from light cleaning of curtains to heavy-duty cleaning of high-traffic carpets. And the unexpected benefit that I love the most: you don't change the attachment when you switch from hard floors to carpet; the same head unit is used for both. I never thought about it, but just pushing a button when I switch rooms rather than having to disconnect and reconnect attachments is a HUGE timesaver. I love this vacuum!
