(More customer reviews)My daughter received this from her aunt. We followed the directions included in the package and found several problems with the item. (1) Once the machine is threaded (according to the directions) the thread feels so tight that it threatens breaking when you pull it through the needle... (2) The foot pedal pulls the fabric through the machine backwards.....(3) There seems to be nothing in the bottom portion of the machine which catches the thread to make a complete seam, in other words...the needle pulls the thread in and out of the fabric without leaving any thread connected to the fabric.
I am completely frustrated with this product and would love to hear that I am just using it incorrectly or that I have a malfunctioning machine. My daughter was VERY disappointed since she had looked so forward to "really" sewing on her own. Has anyone else had any experience with this product?

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my wife who is an avid seamstress. It turned out to be a nice little item that is exactly as described here. It plays a nice tune, Buttons and Bows, and has a semi-operating sewing machine that turns along with the tune. I did notice that the workmanship left a little to be desired. There were some minor scratches on the sewing machine and some of the screws that retain the music maker were over tightened and left an indentation in the wood. Not enough to really detract from the overall impression, but noticeable. Overall I give it four stars - a nice item, almost heirloom quality but for workmanship issues. Interestingly, the provider would not ship the item until I let them know that it was a music box and not a working sewing machine! Whatever! I like it. My wife likes it. You will like it too.

(More customer reviews)I'm really disappointed that this product has Singer's name on it. My 8 yr. old received this as a gift. The knitting machine sort of worked, except it dropped stitches and left gaping holes. The sewing machine is a total joke. It has no bobbin thread, it's just designed to do a chain stitch (which technically doesn't need a bobbin). It never worked from day one. The thread unravels and doesn't stay chained, even when we were very careful to make sure we were following the instructions for threading the machine and backstitching before going forwards. Very disappointing. I'm sorry anyone spent money on it.

The speed is very slow, the pedal is cheap plastic and can break easily. The size is easy to handle for quick-fix sewing. The bobbin case is flimsy and comes dislodged easily.

(More customer reviews)I accidentally purchased this "sewing genie" because I thought I was buying a "mini-rex machine". However, the seller wrote a note that said this "sewing genie" was a similar version of the mini-rex. Had I read the note carefully I wouldnt've bought this because it is a piece of garbage. In the first 15 minutes I used it, I bent two needles, busted the thread about 5 times and couldn't sew through more than 2 layers of THIN sheets. I am fairly experienced with sewing machines so I was able to mess with it and get it to work eventually after about 30 minutes. I do not recommend this machine for anyone, not even a beginner because it is terrible. It shook so much on the table that I had to get someone to hold it down for me so that the stitches weren't completely crooked. I guess you can't expect much from a $20 machine but I know that there are other $20 machines out there that are SIGNIFICANTLY better than this one. In the end, I was able to sew the sheet I needed to sew but I would've rather paid the seamstress to do it instead of this nightmare.

My only complaint is that the light didn't work or it would have gotten 5 stars. The reviews I read indicated that the light didn't help much, so maybe I'm not missing too much. I bought it for my granddaughter (6 years old) so she could sew while I use my big machine, but plan to use it for minor seam mending instead of pulling out my big machine.

Kenmore Mini Ultra 3/4 Size Sewing Machine with 6 Stitches Plus Buttonhole Review

(More customer reviews)I received this machine as a gift 7 years ago, and have since sewed everything from cardboard, denim, upholstery fabrics, quilts, paper, etc on it, and it is still chugging along! It's wonderful because it's fairly lightweight and medium sized, so it's easy to transport. It's also very easy to learn on, I taught myself how to use it and had sewed very little previous to using this machine. It has three straight stitches and seven variations of zig-zag stitches, as well as settings for making a buttonhole; new machines have way more settings for different stitches, but I've learned to do a lot of creative things just with this amount. If you are a really serious sewer you may be interested in a fancier machine with more options, but this one is wonderful if you are okay with limited stitch options. Replacements for needles and the light bulb have been easy and inexpensive. I've recently been learning about how to reset the tension, and this has been the first time it's given me any issues. Read the whole manual before you begin using it, it will make you a better sewer and teach you how to take care of your machine so it lasts longer. I would definitely recommend this machine.

(More customer reviews)This is one of those items that really is too good to be true. I've read reviews of people saying that it doesn't work because the stitching just pulls out and because it doesn't have a second bobbin underneath, but that actually isn't true. If you pull the tailend thread through the fabric, you can tie it off and it'll hold the stitching. And the thread actually loops onto a hook underneath, where you would expect a second bobbin to be, and that's how it makes stitches.
The REAL issue with this is that the thread often slips off the the hook in the middle of sewing and you have a bunch of loose stitches. When it doesn't slip, it's great! Too bad it doesn't ever NOT slip. I managed to sew one seam of a dress I was making, the first seam, and after that it wouldn't sew without dropping stitches. Luckily I got this as a gift, and it has inspired me to start sewing, but now I need to get my hands on a actual machine that ACTUALLY sews. Don't waste your $10 + shipping on this!! Put it towards a real machine.

I am mostly just doing clothing touchups-resewing seems on my boyfriends pants. It's easily stored. The directions on setup were mostly clear. the b/w text was a little hard to read. The chain stitch unravels almost as soon as you sew something. Wish I had done some research instead of making an impulse buy for the holidays.

(More customer reviews)Machine works as advertised. Definitely designed for light weight sewing jobs only as needle will get stuck on thicker garments. Repaired a couple of pants with no problem. The biggest challenge is the base threading. Have to jiggle the base bobbin a little before the base thread was being picked up. Also make sure you turn the handwheel following the arrow on the side for the uptake of the base thread.

SINGER Pixie-Plus Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine a few weeks ago and while using it the thread started bunching and getting caught in the bobbin area, I unjammed and checked the tension, it would work for about 1/2 the side of one pant leg and then get bunched again. I have taken the bobbin feeder area apart checked the tension read the VERY SHORT manual that doesnt give you much help...and tried basically everything I can think of including changing the needle...still keeps doing it!! ... oh yeah and the bobbin winder worked once and now it doesnt ever switch the power from the sewing part to the winding the bobbin when you slide the winder over.. so the needle goes up and down and the bobbin stays perfectly still!! ..if anyone has any clues about how to fix these issues please let me know
