(More customer reviews)First, yes, this version is exactly like the regular Cricut Cake $399 version sold here and other websites. The only difference is the model is white instead of red, and it comes with one of the Martha cartridges instead of the basic Cricut cartridges. And this is also the same as the Cricut Expression machine (which is marketed for scrap booking), only it's food safe and has protective coverings for it's electric bits and buttons.
Second, I would not suggest this to inexperienced decorators or people that make only the occasional cake. The investment does not seem worth it to me, but to each their own.
Third, there is a learning curve to it, it cannot cut straight fondant (nor was it advertised that it can cut fondant). You have to mix your fondant with gumpaste or make your own gumpaste by adding tylose powder to your fondant, and you have to let it rest on the mat and dry out for 30 or so minutes before you can run it through the machine. Otherwise it will not work and you'll be super frustrated. The icing sheets that are sold for the machine taste like paste. Really nasty.
I got mine and have been practicing with it and once I got the hang of it, I love what it's able to do. There is software available (not through Cricut) that you can scan in or pick any image online and this machine will cut it. That alone is awesomeness. There are also a ton of cartridges out there, since this will work with any Cricut cartridge. Look on ebay.
TIP: I noticed that I get the occasional blade drag cut on the top of my gumpaste, but noticed the side touching the mat almost always has a perfect cut. By using the "flip" feature (which will cut a mirror image of your design) I insure that the side of my design that is visable always as a perfect, sharp cut.
You can cut paper with this too, you just need a different blade (the deep cutting one) and the paper mat (although I have yet to try it). You run your own risk of contaminating your machine.

(More customer reviews)The only reason I gave the mat a 4 is because the people at Cricut do not tell you how to use their mats to the best of their ability. The mats come out too sticky and ruin your paper because everything curls up. Before you use the mat, you can smooth is against a clean T-shirt a couple of times and enough lint attaches to it so it is sticky enough to hold the paper but not too sticky.
Once it loses its stickiness and won't hold your paper good enough to cut, you can take a blue glue stick and run it over the mat and let it dry. It will become sticky again. You can do this over and over, maybe 20 times to extend the life of your mat and saving money!

Cricut Machine Shoulder Bag Review

(More customer reviews)Even after reading the reviews I purchased this carrier for my Cricut. I have both the original Cricut and the bigger Expressions. I figured if I could not get the Expressions to fit I could at least put the smaller one in it. I unzipped the ends to "expand the bag" all the way out. I was able to put the Expression inside through the front flap, but it was a tight fit. Just so happen I glanced over at the instruction book and noticed that was an "option 2" after reading, I realized you can actually slide the machine in the bag though the end, think of a doggie carrier. It is really hidden but, on the right hand edge of the bag, inside the "seam" is a zipper. Unzip this and the right end of the bag opens up and the Expression slides in and out with out having to unzip the front flap.
Like others have already mentioned you cannot store your mats or cartidge cases but if you just need something to carry your machine in to crops this is perfect.
I am actually going to buy another one for my smaller cricut.

(More customer reviews)ADORE this cartridge. I use this thing for more designs than any other cartridge I own, not that I own that many. It is SO versatile, and this is coming from a mom with two boys and NO girls. I use it for my own scrapbook (kind of a physical journal I'm putting together about me, and the only place I really can use my girlie supplies!) AND for our family scrapbook. There are a few birds, pretty flowers, and awesome borders, accents... I mean, I could go on. I LOVE the versatile shapes, including scalloped circles, ovals, squares, rectangles... There's a branch with flowers that I absolutely love... I simply don't have enough time to sit and write all of the things I love about this cartridge!
The alphabet does have a dreamy quality to it, but it also has a decidedly Western feel to it (cut it in brown), which is perfect for accenting pages for my family and my boys, too. It also has a fancy alphabet that is so incredibly beautiful, I use it to accent and label all of my supplies.
All in all, if you're debating over this cartridge vs. another one, I'd say go for this one, hands down! I think Cricut may have lost themselves some business with this one because, seriously, I don't even care about buying more cartridges now that I have this one.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product on a deal and a whim. I didn't expect to think it was SO COOL!!! I've looked at many "scrapbooking" gadgets and hate the commercialism that goes with a craft that started as a leftover way to archive. I've been "papercrafting" for decades, way before the modern "scrapbook" and "papercraft" fads. But the more I saw online about this machine, the more I was intrigued. So, once it arrived I unpacked it and within a half hour I was turning out letters. There is a tiny learning curve that amounts to calibrating the machine for what you want it to do, but the machine is intuitive, useful, versatile and fast. I can't believe how quickly it turns out phrases that would have taken me days to cut out by hand.
I love it, I'm hooked, my only complaint is that the supplies and cartridges are so expensive that the expendable and disposable nature makes me have to be extremely cautious about what I choose to purchase. As an artist I do not have the disposable income to make mistakes. But I love this Cricut... chirp!
