(More customer reviews)Sure, this lamp is rather expensive. I've had one since November 2000 and would not be without it. The light is crisp and as close to daylight as you can get. The tiniest newspaper print, miniscule beads, and delicate black-on-black work are possible under this light. Even though it is flourescent, there is absolutely NO hum or wait for the light to turn on (as with the cheaper desk-model Ott-Lites). It is very well made, and the base is weighted enough to withstand frequent head-butts from my helpful feline companion. Yes, you can buy cheaper lamps, but this one may save your eyes, your patience, and a lot of time in the long term.
