(More customer reviews)I am in love with the betty shopper bag. The bag is casual and modern, but is not flimsy or hokey. The pattern recommends using interfacing with home decor fabric for some stiffness and body. You can use regular good quality quilting cotton as well and instead of interfacing a canvas is recommended. The bag has stiff pockets on the inside and a stiff bottom created by using Timtex or Pentex. By using this products the bag has some shape creating a more clean modern feel than a home crafted feel. The finished product however is very large! There are 2 sizes in the pattern, the larger one is about 25 inches across the bottom, and the small is about 22 inches. It is a large bag! You have to be careful turning around in the bus isles. I wacked someone on the head.
The reason I gave the pattern 4 stars is I find that her instructions can be a little hard to follow at times. You have to read very carefully or you could easily miss an important detail. In this pattern you also have to tape one corner of the bag to the main body of the bag to create the completed main body. I easily missed this part (because I didn't read carefully and looked at pictures instead)and cut the bag out wrong the first time. Thank god I was using scraps of fabric for the first bag. The bag doesn't take long to stitch together at all. The most time consuming part of this bag is cutting it out.
This bag has inspired me.
