The frame is sturdy and made of superior grade plastic and my lamp has gone through thousands of openings and closings in the past and has shown no appreciable wear. I've also dropped it down a height of ten feet by accident, and while I wouldn't recommend repeating that incident the unit came through without a scratch. The lamp is incredibly versatile beyond its construction, the light is strong and the light the bulb produces mimics daylight. This makes it ideal for small craft and repair jobs, and also makes it an excellent source of supplementary light for indoor plants.
The only reason I didn't rate this product 4 stars instead of a five star rating is that the cord of the light is about 4 feet. which is rather short for a work/craft light, and carrying around is tiresome. The cord can also become a problem when using it as a work lite as the cord is not detachable and can be a hazard. In my case stumbling on the cord was what caused the ten foot drop. If a relatively short non-detachable power cord isn't a factor, then I can't recommend this light enough. I may even buy another in the near future myself.
