This is an authentic-style Beledi/Saidi/Abeya dress pattern.
The pattern itself is NOT for extreme beginners; though not a complex dress, if you want a fitted dress, you will need to add darts in front and back and take in the sides to fit your own shape, which may be challenging for beginners. If you are using non-stretch, you may also want to add a zipper if you want it more figure-skimming. Also, you need to cut your own bias strips for the neckline facing.
Having said that, the pattern directions are fairly easy to follow and clear. The pattern is well-designed. I feel it is a bit overpriced for what it is, but still, it's worth it to find an authentic saidi dress pattern that hasn't been modified or adapted away from the traditional.
Tall girls note: I am 5'11" and wanted a dress as pictured (i.e., ankle length). I added 4" to the overall length at the bottom to achieve this effect. I made the trailing drape-style sleeves, and I would recommend adding 1 1/2-2", depending on your arm length from shoulder to elbow.
Customer service was excellent from Patterns of Time, and I would highly recommend doing business with them.
Thanks, Amazon!

Elena's Beledi Dress. The versatile beledi dress is a wonderful costume for those dancers who prefer to cover up. In Egypt, as well as here, the beledi dress may be made from Asyut, the metal embroidered net shawls so hard to find. Make yours in metallic knit, sequined fabric, or any fabric of your choice. We show two styles, three neckline and three sleeve variations. Separate cutting lines for small, medium and large on same pattern.
