They are inexpensive and the little slight hook taper is good for pulling threads through picots, you get two different colors which make it easier to keep track of what you're doing with 2 shuttle projects. If you break or lose one it's not heartbreaking like losing the shuttle that belonged to your grandmother. I'm using these until I feel comfortable enough with tatting to use the very special shuttles handed down to me by family.
They are very easy to load with thread, and I used them with size 10 cotton down to size 30. I'm not ready yet to try with the finer threads.
