(More customer reviews)The Rechargeable from OTT-lite is a admirable desk lamp. This folding desk lamp opens up from 0-180 degrees. It has a 13 watt OTT lamp that puts out a fair amount of light. Within a few feet the output is very similar to what you may expect out of a 75 watt lamp. This particular lamp produces a distinct white light with no hints of amber, blue or red. The effect is that it creates a high contrast reflection, letters really stand out from the page and it really makes pictures pop.
The OTT lamp is named after Dr. John Ott, he developed Ott-Light products. Dr. Ott spent 40 years researching sunlight and its effects on people, plants and animals.
I purchased this lamp because I work in a studio environment and I prefer to have the overhead lights turned off to reduce the glare off of my screens. Placed below where my screens are mounted this lamp easily covers all 6 feet of my desk ONLY while it is plugged into the AC outlet.
The battery operation of the lamp is laughable. Light output drops by 75% on battery power. And while I've been able to keep the light on for over 8 hours, the amount of usable light that it produces is almost none.
On the whole I like this unit as a AC lamp but I would tell you if your looking for a a good battery operated lamp with a similar OTT output you may want to find something in a LED lamp. Given the choice I would return this model and purchase one of the AC only units. So 5 stars for desk operation minus 2 for poor battery performance leaves this unit with a 3 star rating.
