(More customer reviews)This light has a great price point, can be direct wired to a dimmer, and has a nice satin nickel finish. Two installation/design challenges:
1. the punch outs along the back edge for the wiring grommet conflict with the way the cover folds back into place. You may need to turn the retaining ring on the grommet to get the door to close.
2. The rocker switch that comes installed in the unit is plastic and is only held in place by little plastic friction tabs. The wiring can force the switch to pop out so keep the wiring connections at the other end of the box.
If you are installing new wiring as the kitchen is being build, be sure to leave at least 24" from the face of the wall to get to the light and into the wiring box. Also, there are small black o-ring washers for the screws of the wiring box cover which are easily overlooked.

(More customer reviews)These are great undercabinet lights. The quality of the Xenon light is perfect, like sunlight. Installed correctly, you get nice even task lighting that also, as a bonus, makes granite countertops look incredible. I have them on dimmers, which I highly recommend. They do get warm, however, so I would think you wouldn't want to put temperature-sensitive foods on the bottom shelf of the cabinets. If you have a separate pantry, this is a non-issue. As for pricing, these sell for much, much more in lighting stores; buying them through Amazon I think I saved almost 50%.

(More customer reviews)When I first received the product and installed it, it looked great! Unfortunately it only lasted approx. three weeks. I believe it's a problem with the transformer. I only had one light hooked up, it stopped working, so I switched lights and that one doesn't work either.
I don't know how to rememdy this problem? Any suggestions...

(More customer reviews)Although this product is described as an "under cabinet" fixture, it has a dual design that allows it to be used as recessed, in-cabinet lighting as well. The mounting shell can be removed, leaving a lamp housing with a flush-mount trim ring. It is then a simple matter to cut a hole and push the mount up and in.
This fixture produces a pleasing light with great color fidelity. In our application, it is mounted in a kitchen corner cabinet with glass front and glass shelves, holding wine glasses and other transparent pieces. The pair of fixtures in the cabinet provides even light. The lens has just enough of a matte finish to avoid a glare in the viewer's eyes.
In our application this fixture is connected to a dimmer, and this also works flawlessly. Note well that you need to purchase a transformer separately--this "steps down" your local line voltage to the 12 volt current needed by the fixture. A small, "hard-wire" transformer mounted in the attic above the cabinet did the trick for us. (Electrical codes may require that the transformer and any wire splices be accessible. Since the area above our cabinet is not accessible, we needed to install in this manner.) You should ensure that the transformer has enough capacity--for our pair of fixtures, it needed to supply 50 watts including a safety margin--and that it is compatible with dimmers if you want your light dimmable.
This is a high-quality product.

(More customer reviews)I understand that these are not very expensive items, but they simply fail at an unacceptable rate. Two out of the six I purchased have now failed. What's worse is that the failure mechanism is not repairable. I took one apart to see what went wrong, after all it was not working anyway. I found that the socket that the bulb plugs into is so poorly designed, that eventually (a few months after installation) it will fail, even if you don't touch it - I mean the socket, not the bulb. This is poorly engineered garbage. Don't waste your money. If it was free, I wouldn't pay the shipping. As an aside, while they are working, the 20 watt xenon light is great for undercounter kitchen lighting, it's just the fixture - from American (made in China) Lighting - that blows.
August, 2009 update: I was sent two extras as replacements so I now own 8 units. Only two are still working. Much credit to the engineers at American Lighting for creating such a reliable failure mechanism.

This xenon puck light emits a strong, bright light from a small package and is ideal for illuminating cabinet shelving or kitchen countertops. The lens is frosted and glare-free. It attaches to the base via a twist-lock. Airflow is permitted between the puck and the mounting surface by ventilation pins, preventing the surface from overheating. Also included is a 32-inch black lead wire with a screw down terminal block. A 20-watt, 12-volt xenon bulb is included. A transformer is required for use.
