Oliso TG-800 Touch & Glide Steam Iron Review

I heard about this iron last year but didn't purchase it because it was $129 and I read a poor review on Amazon. Then a few months ago I read 2 great reviews from Gizmodo and Engadget so I stared to consider it again. In February my old trusty Kenmore iron died and a week or so later I read 2 very favorable magazine reviews (how old school) in Time Magazine's Feb. issue and Men's Health Magazine 2006 Tech Guide. I finally decided to go for it...and after over a month of use I am happy to say that they were right and this thing is AMAZING! I think I may be the first person to actually buy it, use it for over a month and then write a real review on Amazon. Believe me, I know I'm talking about an iron here but I've been ironing since I went to college and left my mom's home 15 years ago and I've never used an iron that does its job as stated and totally improves and speeds up my ironing chores while also being very safe.
I had owned and used my Kenmore Iron for almost 10 years and I loved it besides the fact it was very heavy and not so steamy the last few months. I had been considering the Black & Decker D2030 that everyone seems to love but after testing it I noticed the digital lcd screen was too hard to see and confusing unless I was at the perfect angle. Since most of the time I'm ironing quickly and half asleep in the morning I realized that feature could be a disaster so I kept researching and luckily picked up the right magazines in February. This Oliso iron does everything the D2030 can do but is just as easy to use and can do MUCH more. Seriously, the touch sensitive handle which causes the iron to raise up off my clothes and then lower back down with the touch of my hand is worth the $99 I spent alone and the best ironing idea since the iron was created!
As for features that matter the most for pro ironers like my grandma ;-), it heats up fast and has powerful, continuous, and balanced steam that is strong enough for my toughest and stiffest stuff like jeans. My favorite feature, it can do vertical bursts of super steam (like a real steamer) that removes wrinkles from any of my shirts that are hanging on a hangar with a few blasts (read: shirts ready in less than a minute without using an ironing board and because this thing auto lifts while in the natural horizontal position I can put it down naturally on ANY surface and its safe). My final thought, the engineers that thought this up must be smart people who definitely use steam irons...Did I mention it has a long pivoting cord, huge water tank that opens outward for filling right under my faucet, auto shut off and some special detailer feature on the front that allows me to do cuffs and collars easier than I've ever done. I could actually go on but I'd rather you buy one and discover ironing that is easy and kind of fun...
Thanks Oliso!

This iron is incredible! It is heavy enough to iron well, but light enough that it doesn't trouble my gimpy shoulder! Of course, not having to do all the extra exercise of holding it up to rest on its end really helps---just move off the ironing area and let go...it automatically raises and I have even set it on a wood table and it raises and doesn't leave a mark. The stainless soleplate is very smooth and would be easy to clean if necessary---and I prefer stainless over the teflon for environmental reasons as well as had trouble with another teflon iron in the past....

Oliso TG-1600 Smart Iron Review

I got this iron last week and was able to spend a full 12 hours (on and off) ironing with it recently. On one occasion during my marathon ironing session, I did have some water come out of the iron, but it was when I overfilled the water tank and was ironing forcefully and rapidly. It didn't leak from the steam vents, it appeared to splash a drop of water from above, and it wasn't a shocker to me. My GE iron used to soak my clothes out of the steam holes, every ironing session, so I know what 'spitting' is, and this iron definitely does not 'spit'.
I bought this model because as a quilter, I wanted an iron with an auto shut off, but I wanted an extended shut off time (the other models turn off a lot more quickly than this one). I love how fast this iron heats up. As for actual ironing--it does a very nice job---no better than any other iron would...every iron is simply a hot metal plate that presses out wrinkles..it's not rocket science...it's all about the bells and whistles, and this one is, by far, the most unique iron on the market today with the loudest bells and whistles.
I ironed over buttons, snaps, used spray starch and Mary Ellen's best press, I steamed, I sprayed, I turned it off and on. I had a little film on the soleplate when I was done (having used almost a full can of spray starch and a quarter bottle of Best Press) and it wiped right off with a Clorox wipe (which I also used to wipe off the spray starch residue from it's colorful plastic body). It was easy to add water to, and it was even easier to empty the water from the tank when I was done. I was ironing in a tight space, and as many times as I bumped into the ironing board squeezing past, not once did the iron fall off onto the floor. It took me no more than 2 shirts to stop trying to stand it on it's side and get with the 'Smart Iron' program.
I considered a Rowenta, but I read plenty of unsatisfied reviews from Rowenta users. Just as I read a few snarky reviews on this one. No matter the brand, there will be haters out there, just as there will be lovers. It's a small appliance, it's not a lifelong commitment. If it stabs me in the back a month down the road, I'll sell it at a yard sale or on eBay and move on to the next , but for now, ironing is fun.

A steam iron that levitates? And does push-ups? Absolutely. From the company that believes in making the mundane fun--as well as state-of-the-art--comes the Smart Iron steam/dry iron series. Featuring patented iTouch auto-lift technology, every iron is equipped with digital sensors that recognize the touch of your hand and lower the iron to the fabric, then lift it when you let go. That means a couple of things: no more repetitive lifting to an upright position, no more accidental burns, and no more fear of tipping. Starting to see the smart part? The iron also has an award-winning automatic shut-off feature that's timed for different events: 30 seconds if knocked over; 3 minutes if left horizontal with iTouch over-ridden; and, in the case of this TG-1600 model, 30 minutes if not lifted or left on its heel.
Additional features include easy-to-use selector controls, deep penetrating heat for one-pass pressing, and vertical, horizontal, and continuous steaming options with an anti-drip system. Designed for quilters and sewers, the TG-1600 has a pointed sculptured tip for narrow spots, roomy 2-inch detailers, and a super-flat Pro-Press soleplate with a durable, scratch-resistant beadblast chromium finish and rolled edge for smooth sailing across any fabric. It is also equipped with 1800 watts of power, a 12-foot cord with 360 degree pivoting, and an extra-large 12.7-ounce side-load tank with a built-in funnel. One-year warranty.

I bought this iron for my grandmother who is a seamstress. She absolutely loves it and tells all of her friends about it, too. It not only has great steam, but it has a nice pointed tip area for making nice seams and of course it lifts itself up so you don't have to worry about burning clothes or yourself. Best of all, my grandmother doesn't have to lift the iron any more since it stays horizontal... she has arthritis and it makes it difficult to iron when she has to keep lifting it. For that alone it's a great value. You should also watch this iron in action on the company's website--it's pretty amazing.

Oliso TG-1050 Smart Iron Review

I just recently purchased this iron and so far am very impressed with the quick heat-up and ease of use. My last two irons were both Rowenta brand. They came so highly reccommended by clerks in fabric shops and by Martha Stewart, using one regularly on her show during craft segments. Well, my first one died in less than a year after purchase. It wasn't cheap! ($80-90.00 range) I sent it back to the company and asked if they could repair it and let me know what the charge would be since it was out of the warranty period. Two weeks later I got it back, not repaired with a short and somewhat rude note stating that since it was out of it's warranty they would not touch it, completely ignoring my offer to pay for the repair. Later I decided to try Rowenta again with a lower end model, (less expensive) that still delivered on the steam factor. Well that one lasted about 4 years total before it died but, the steam element went caput in only a few months after purchase. While I researched online for a better, more reliable iron, I struggled along with an old Black & Decker "Professional" model hidden away in the back of the linen closet. I was quickly reminded of why it was tucked back there, it weighs a ton and the steam element is terrible and leaked all over the place. When I saw this Oliso model on Amazon, I went to the manufacturer's website to get more info and found a short video on the home page showing all the unique features of this iron. I was hooked and knew I had to try one for myself! The i-touch scorch guards are so cool! It took me all of 5 minutes to get used to the idea of leaving the iron flat rather than standing it on it's heel. It heats up to temperature very quickly too which is great if you are in a rush. The knobs and selectors are very easy to read and understand and the water tank is actually accessible and easy to fill! What a concept!! I do alot of sewing both clothing and household items so this is a much needed and welcome upgrade. I hope over time I will still be able to give this product the 5 star rating, depending on the lifespan of course. So far I am thrilled!...Well at least as thrilled as one could be over an iron!
